Evelyn Dunn Obituary

TUSCALOOSA - Evelyn Voncille Lott Dunn, age 94, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., went to heaven on March 11, 2018 at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Tim Lovett officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with Sunset Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be an hour before the service.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Maude and Allen Lott; husband, Thomas Madison Dunn; and sisters, Lois Napier (Maxwell), Myrtis Davis (Frank), and Inez Rawls (Ralph).
Survivors include her daughter, Melinda Ikard and son-in-law, Steve Ikard; grandchildren, Tommy Ikard (Angela) of Jackson, Miss., Stephen Ikard (Catherine) of Tuscaloosa Ala., David Ikard (Reagen) of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and John Michael Ikard (Sarah Grace) of Birmingham Ala.; great-grandchildren Bill, Lewis and Jack Ikard, Emma and Ellis Ikard, Tucker and Brady Ikard; sister, Elsie Williams of Hattiesburg, Miss.; and brothers, Winfred Lott (Becky) of Jackson, Miss. and Audler Lott of Sumrall, Miss. and a host of nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was born in Sumrall, Miss. to Maude and Allen Lott on January 8, 1924. She was the middle child of seven children. She grew up on a farm with her siblings during the depression. After high school, she worked in Jackson, Miss. as a dental assistant and met her future husband who was a practicing surgeon after serving in the United States Navy during WWII. She and Thomas Madison Dunn were married for 54 years and lived in St. Petersburg, Fla. where they resided until moving to Tuscaloosa in 2004.
Evelyn was a homemaker and loved sewing, painting, cooking and entertaining friends in their home. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and those close to her called her Mimi.
More important than what she accomplished was who she was and how she lived life. She was always loving, always kind and always patient and never complained. You could not help but love her. Memories of her will be reflected, not only in her paintings, but in her life as a godly wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. We will miss her dearly.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Ikard, Stephen Ikard, David Ikard, John Michael Ikard, Jerry Napier and Jim Phillips.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tim and Stephanie McGhee, Dr. Keith DeBell, and caregivers, Irene Wynn, Pat Sudduth, Tina Gibson, Faye Kelly, Debra Wilson, Bessie Cameron, Tiffany German and Ollie Finklea.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa, Ala., Hospice of West Alabama or The Good Samaritan Clinic.
