TUSCALOOSA - Christine Dobbs Wiggins, age 88, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., went to be with her Lord on August 5, 2018 at DCH Regional Hospital after a long illness. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 11, 2018, at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Pugh officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, August 10, 2018, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services on Saturday.
She is preceded in death by her parents, E.B. and Celia Dobbs; her brothers, Julian and Raiford Dobbs; and her sister, Maxine Norris.
She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Daniel Braxton Wiggins, Sr.; sons, Daniel Braxton Wiggins, Jr. (Margaret) of Vance and David Alan Wiggins, Sr. (Carolyn) of Tuscaloosa; sisters, Loyal Farley, Betty Stival and Joan Turner; brothers, Buford Dobbs (Sally), Solon Dobbs (Vera) and W.D. Dobbs; five grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Christine was born April 14, 1930 in Blytheville, Arkansas. She lived in Alta, Berry, Samantha and Northport as a child and she graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School. She married the love of her life, Dan Wiggins on December 15, 1949.
The Air Force carried them to bases throughout the United States and Europe. She loved serving the Lord through missions in her local church and she and Dan helped begin Surfside Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
A favorite memory for her family, especially the grandchildren, was Christmas with Grandmother's homemade lasagna.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Karl Wiggins, Matthew Wiggins, Alan Wiggins, Jon Wiggins, Derek Glass, Benjamin Wiggins, Noah Wiggins, Joshua Wiggins, Caleb Wiggins, Jacob Glass and Andrew Glass.
Honorary pallbearers are Alberta Baptist Church, Christian Ministries Center, Forrest Lake United Methodist Church, Dee Dockery, the wonderful Staff on 6th South at DCH Medical Center, Dr. Scott Fulgham, Dr. Gene Aldridge, Dr. William Hill, staff and caregivers at Heritage Healthcare, staff and caregivers at Morning Pointe Assisted Living, Henry and Virginia Wiggins, Cicely Vance.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Alberta Baptist Church Christian Ministries Center or a .
