TUSCALOOSA - On Wednesday, August 8, 2018, Ronald "Joe" Taylor passed away at the age of 66 at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Joe was born on July 25, 1952 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. He graduated from Holt High School in 1970 and was a proud University of Alabama graduate. He was Director of Asphalt Sales for Hunt Refining Company, where he worked for 37 years.
Joe never met a stranger and would light up a room with his presence, jovial personality, and quick wit. He was generous, loyal, fun, driven, compassionate, competitive, charismatic, and loving. He'd be the first to celebrate your success with you. He'd also be the first to encourage you when you were down.
Joe was an achiever; you'd never see him give up or back down in the face of adversity - he'd only work harder to overcome it. He loved sports and would be on UA's campus during football season, attending a Braves' game with his son during baseball season, catching a UA basketball game at the Coliseum or watching on TV.
Joe had a heart of gold and he took great care to look after the people he loved. He was devoted to his family - Tawana, his wife of 31 years, and their two children, Brody and Molly, of whom he was so proud.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, JC Taylor; mother, Bobbie Hinton; stepfather, Bob Hinton; grandparents, Ruby and Lamon Smith and Andrew and Doshie Taylor.
He is survived by his wife, Tawana; son, Brody Taylor; daughter, Molly Taylor; sister, Dana (Tommy) Taylor; brother, Tim Taylor; mother-in-law, Barbara Fields; sister-in-law, Tonya Fields; brother-in-law Todd (Aprile) Fields; brother-in-law, Mike Honeycutt; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncle, cousins, great-nephews, and a great-niece.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 13th, 2018, at First United Methodist Church in downtown Tuscaloosa at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will be prior to the service at 11:00 a.m.
Honorary pallbearers are Hospice of West Alabama; Hunt Refining Company; Tuscaloosa Magnet School's faculty, staff, students and parents; Magnet Mermaids; Dr. David Harding and staff; Tuscaloosa City School System.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Joe's memory to Hospice of West Alabama or First United Methodist Church of Tuscaloosa.
