Theodora WARIAKOIS Obituary

August 31, 1928 ~ October 29, 2012 Age 84 Teddy Wariakois passed away October 29, 2012 in Raleigh, North Carolina. She was born August 31, 1928 in St. Paul, Minnesota to the late Dorothy Marchal Ringberg and Bernard Ringberg. Teddy grew up in St. Paul. Her father was a commercial artist at Brown and Bigelow and she followed in her father's footsteps winning several awards as an art student at Wilson High School. In 1946 she began studies at the University of Minnesota, where she met the love of her life, Richard Wariakois, a young WWII veteran. They married in 1949 and graduated together in 1950, both in Art Education. They built their own home in White Bear Lake and enjoyed family life with their children, Kris and Mark. After years of substitute teaching while her children were young, Teddy went to work full time as a high school art teacher with the White Bear Lake School District in 1962, where she taught until her retirement in 1984. She received many honors for her excellence in teaching, but Teddy's greatest reward was the multitude of students who went on to find careers in art, some to gain fame nationally and who wrote kind letters of gratitude over the years which she dearly treasured. After Dick passed away, Teddy moved to Raleigh, North Carolina to be in her daughter's care for her last few years. Teddy is predeceased (2007) by her husband of 58 years, Richard Wariakois. Survivors include her devoted children and grandchildren, daughter Kristine Door, husband Robert and granddaughter Angelica of Raleigh, son Mark Wariakois and grandson, Shey of Salt Lake City; and her brother, Bernhard Ringberg, wife Mary, niece and nephews, of Eagan, Minnesota.

I attended White Bear Mariner High School (1977-1980)

Art class was, by far, my favorite class. Of course it was taught be Teddy Wariakios ! :)
Teddy `pushed´ me. She cared about my progress. I did make progress . . she unlocked the door to pencildrawing, working with pastel chalk. Pastel chalk happened to be my calling . .

I believe Teddy took us a field trip or two to local museums . . She screened Vincent Van Gogh´s bio pic (with Kirk Douglass ) annually . . and `starry, starry night´ by Don McLean was one of her favorite sons . .
Teddy was a (tough) teacher, but not that tough.
My life wouldn´t be the same had I not taken Teddy´s classes
Yes! That impactful to this impressionable young student
Sending love and comfort to Teddys entire family . . God bless

Mrs. Wariakois was my high school art teacher and I have often thought to myself over the years how lucky I was to have had her as a teacher. I know many of my classmates felt the same. My thoughts and prayers are with her family today.

I met Teddy when she lived at The Gardens of Wakefield Plantation where my mother lives. She was a beautiful person with great artistic talent. She was a friendly and nice person. Prayers to her family. I am happy that I had the opportunity to know her.

Teddy Wariakois was my high school art teacher, and one of the greatest influences on my life today. I think of her regularly, and will always be thankful for her presence in my early life. Sweet dreams, Mrs. Wariakois.
