Clyde M. REEDY Obituary
6/17/21 - 6/20/18 Preceded in death by wife, Mary and brother, Stuart. Survived by brother Henry Jr, children Darwin (Geraldine) and Elizabeth (Gary Hanson), two grandchildren, four step-grandsons, one great grandson and eight great step-grandchildren. A financial advisor by trade, Clyde led a life of active service to others. He was a member of many boards including House of Hope Presbyterian Church, the MN Landscape Arboretum, Phi Kappa Psi Endowment Scholarship Fund, Roselawn Cemetery and Valparaiso U Art Museum. In the 1950-'60s, he was a Winter Carnival Vulcan and a Mounds View Public School Board member. In retirement, he sold bird houses via mail order and was a small business mentor for Score. Clyde was a self-educated, lifelong learner; creative and interested in many things. A student of history, he compiled genealogies and led trips for friends to Scotland following in the steps of Boswell and Johnson. He admired Prairie School architecture, built Japanese gardens, collected contemporary art, grew bonsai trees, apples and azaleas (before they were MN winter hardy!). He dyed yarn and wove wall hangings and made beef barley soup and apple pies for neighbors. Clyde left the U of MN to enlist in the Navy during WWII where he flew a PBY "Blackcat" Catalina, a search and rescue plane. He served in the Pacific Theater and was active in the invasion of Iwo Jima, the operation that resulted in the shooting down of Admiral Yamamoto. His PBY accompanied the Enola Gay when the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. Clyde and Mary had friends of all ages and were welcoming to new comers in all situations. Service of remembrance FRI., 7/13, 11:00 a.m., House of Hope Presbyterian Church, 797 Summit Ave., St. Paul. Visitation at 10:00. Memorials preferred to MN Landscape Arboretum, House of Hope Church or donor's choice.
