1924 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
Dr. Dale K SORENSEN D.V.M. Obituary
Age 94, passed away peacefully on Sept. 11, 2018. Dale was born July 21, 1924 in Centuria, WI and graduated with a B.S. & a Ph. D. in Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State and the U of WI (Madison). During WWII Dale served in the Merchant Marine. After the war he worked with the new United Nations Relief Agency to restore equine husbandry in Europe. He spent his career on the faculty of the College of Veterinary Medicine at the U of MN. In addition to teaching, he was a leading researcher and authority on large animal carcinoma and served in various leadership roles including as Dean of the College. He also performed research at Brookhaven National Laboratory and consulted on large animal husbandry in developing countries (including Indonesia and Taiwan). Dale concluded his career supervising research grants for the National Institute of Food and Agriculture at the US Dept. of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. For many years he provided health care to animals at the Zoo in Como Park, St. Paul, MN - and with an invariably cheerful disposition, Dale was often favorably compared to Dr. Doolittle. With wife, Betty, he was a frequent world traveler. Well loved by all, he will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. Dale was predeceased by wife, Betty; parents, Lawrence & Olive; siblings, Eloise and Jerry; and son, Andrew. He is survived by daughter, Nan (Tom Shroyer); son, Greg (Priscilla); grandchildren: Eric (Jamie) Shroyer, Peter (Deysi Duque) Shroyer, Daniel, David and Luke Sorensen, Stephanie and Nick Sorensen; and their mother, Karen Sorensen; and many loving nieces and nephews. Our sincere thanks to everyone at the Commons on Marice in Eagan, MN and to his hospice team, Brighton, for the wonderful care he received at the end of his life. Memorial service, 2:00 PM, Friday, Sept. 28, 2018 at House of Hope Presbyterian Church, 797 Summit Ave., St. Paul, MN. Visitation 12:30-2 PM at the church. Memorials preferred to the University of MN Foundation for the publication of Dale's book on the history of the College of Veterinary Medicine, Brighton hospice or Commons on Marice. Henry W.
