Katherine WILLIAMS Obituary

Age 67, of River Falls, WI Passed away on February 3, 2016 surrounded by family after courageously battling cancer for 10 months while keeping her joyous spirit throughout. Born Katherine Frost Pfiffner October 10, 1948 in Stevens Point, WI to Marjorie (Frost) and Joseph Pfiffner, she attended the Wisconsin State College - Stevens Point Campus Grade School (now the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point) where her mother was the 7th and 8th Grade Math and Science Supervisor, followed by Maria (all girls) High School. During the summers after her Junior and Senior years of high school Kathy worked as a counselor at Camp Wawbeek, an Easter Seals Camp for the physically disabled near the Wisconsin Dells. It was there she met her loving husband, George, of 44 years and fostered her passion of caring for others. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison School of Nursing in 1972 and continued on to get her OB-GYN Nurse Practitioner Certification from the Indiana University Medical School in 1974 resulting in a 43 year career in medicine. She touched hundreds of lives during her medical practice, most recently at Allina (formerly Aspen) Bandana Square Medical Clinic in St. Paul, MN. Kathy didn't just love life, she attacked it passionately with her constant positivity, enthusiasm and contagious energy that could not be matched! She was genuinely interested in and curious about everyone and everything she encountered, dedicating her life to her family and serving others in need. She loved music and the performing arts and was an accomplished musician and dancer after many years of flute, piano, violin and ballet lessons growing up. She performed in both high school and college musicals and loved attending shows. She always felt her time here was so precious that she never wanted to waste even a moment on idleness. In her "spare time" when she wasn't traveling, exploring, hiking, going to the river and lake cabins, boating, skiing (winter and summer) and shopping for bargains, she always maintained a large stock pile of projects to make sure she didn't waste any precious time. She will be greatly missed by her husband George; daughters Andrea (David) Mitchell and Larissa Williams; son George (Paige) Williams; granddaughter Josephine Mitchell; siblings Joseph Pfiffner and Patrice Shibilski; many close relatives, great friends and hundreds of grateful patients; but, she will live on through those who were fortunate enough to have known and loved her and follow the tremendous example she set. The family is hosting a Celebration of Katherine's Life Open House/Reception on Saturday, February 13, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in St. Paul, MN at the University of St. Thomas Anderson Student Center's Woulfe Alumni Hall, 3rd Floor Room 378. Directions/Maps: www.stthomas.edu/campusmaps/stpaul/ Parking: Anderson Parking Facility at the SW Corner of Grand Ave. and Cretin Ave. Memorial contributions may be made to Easter Seals Camp Wawbeek, Wisconsin Dells, WI (www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/ESWcamps/friendsofcampwawbeek) or a similar charity of one's choice.

I was a patient of Kathy's for over 15 years and every time I was in for a visit she had this amazing way of making me feel like I was the only patient on her schedule for the day. Her warmth and enthusiasm made her so very special. I only recently learned of her passing and would like to offer my condolences to her family. What a light she was in this world.

As a patient of Kathy's, I was certainly touched by her. She was a great physician and always made me feel cared for and comfortable. I admired her spunk a great deal and it was always a pleasure to visit. So saddened to hear about the loss of this great lady.

I too just opened the letter from Allina and read the news about Kathy, which frankly broke my heart. It is hard to think that someone with such joy and life has passed on. I think Kathy made all of her patients feel safe, nurtured and cared for--- which is such a wonderful gift to give. She was always so bright, so reassuring, so kind. I loved hearing about her life during our appointments and she always took time to hear about mine. She really did have a special spark that drew you to her. A colleague of mine also saw Kathy and we had quite a few lunches where we would sing her praises. I became pregnant this September and I had hoped to see her during my prenatal period and discovered she was on medical leave. Please know she is in my heart and the hearts of all her former patients, as are you. I like to think she is watching over us all now. Peace be with you Kathy!

To Kathy's family- I, too, was a patient of Kathy's. Know that she epitomized the heart of a nurse. She was kind, funny and empathetic. Every appointment left a patient lifted by her spirit. My condolences as you grieve. She was a gift to many. Heidi

I opened a letter from Allina Bandana Square today and read with shock and sadness of the death of my nurse and friend, Kathy Williams. I was a patient of Kathy's for 28 years and cannot believe she left this world so suddenly. As all the entries have said, Kathy was devoted to her patients and was the best listener the medical world in St. Paul had to offer. I always got a big hug when she came into the room - even with a paper sheet wrapped around me - and she would ask about my twins before we discussed my health! We would talk about both our families; she was that rare practitioner who took the time to share life with you. Recently I had hoped that my young adult daughter could see Kathy, too. To Kathy's family, please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. It was an honor to have known her, and I will miss her very much, as I know you do every day. She was truly a shining light.

I recently found out about the passing of Kathy Williams on July 26 at a doctor appointment. The tears flowed and flowed when I was told she passed away. I had asked about her several times over the last year or so and I was always told she was on a medical leave. I was devastated and shocked when I was told she passed away. I have seen her many times over the years and she was such a joy! She always made me feel like I was the most important person in the world at my appointments! She would always listen to my concerns, questions and would take time to answer my questions. She was a person who loved doing what she did, every time I seen her she always had a beautiful smile on her face and made you feel so important. She really cared about all the women she seen. She will be greatly missed and I will never forget her. I'm so sad that I'm just finding out about her passing because I wish I could have attended her funeral. She was truly a gift from God. To her family God bless you all and know that you all have a beautiful angel who is with you and watching over each and every day. Blessings to you all.

I feel so blessed to have been a patient of Kathy's for several years. She genuinely cared for others and her passion/zest for life was evident every time I saw her. She was an amazing woman who really took the time to listen to her patients. What a warm, kind, beautiful, inspirational person Kathy was. Her passing has made the world a little dimmer. She will be greatly missed.

I just heard about Kathy's passing, and am so sad to hear these news. I was her patient for 17 years, and she made what would be an ackward appointment, more enjoyable, with her stories, and talking about our children. She will be missed.

Like others... I just found out about Kathy today when I called for an appointment....I have been seeing her for so many years I can't remember when I started seeing her.... I can truly say I loved her... I don't want to see anyone else... she made such a difference in my life... in so many ways... I always knew I could ask her about anything...We would talk about her family and mine... I made a Wise Woman Doll for her many years ago... and she would always tell me how the doll was doing every time I saw her... When I would run into her outside of the clinic she always treated me like a close friend.... Words cannot express the sorrow I am feeling ....for her family and for me.... to lose someone like her so young is just not fair....Oh Kathy enjoy heaven...I'd say rest in peace... but I can't imagine you resting... you were always on the go and loving life so much.... Know you were loved by many!!!!

I am so shocked and incredibly sad. I absolutely loved going in to see her. We would spend so much time talking and catching up. She was such a joyful and amazing woman. She talked with such love about her family. I will miss her tremendously. My thoughts are with you.
