Robert A. "Bob" KEENE Obituary
KEENE Robert A. "Bob" Age 87 ~ Of St. Paul Passed away on February 3, 2013 of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his bride, Lovie. He is survived by children, Patty, Michael (Ann Marie), Bobby (Marge) and Kevin (Brenda) as well as 8 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grand-child and many special friends. Bob faithfully served our country in the United States Marine Corps, 2nd Marine Division during World War II. He joined the Marine Corp on May 28th, 1943 and attended radio communications school in San Diego and then went on to Camp Pendleton for additional training and prior to his service in the Pacific Theatre. His unit landed in Saipan on June 15th, 1944. He was part of an operation to secure Saipan and then headed for Tinian to secure that island. After securing Tinian, they headed for Okinawa on April 1st, 1945 and eventually took Okinawa under Army command in April 1945. As soon as the war was over, they boarded a ship headed for Nagasaki, arriving shortly after the atomic bomb was dropped. After the war and upon returning to the states, he married his high school sweetheart, Lovie on June 21st, 1947. On June 15th, 1951, he and E. John Chelberg founded the John Roberts Company in St. Paul, MN. He led the company through many prosperous and many difficult times that included the death of his partner and health challenges. Over his career he was an incredibly influential and respected leader in his industry, serving on the Board of the PIM from 1970 - 1989 and was Chairman of the Board in 1986 and 1987. He was beloved by his many employees, customers and vendors and anyone who ever came into contact with him. Bob was a faithful member of the Catholic Church. Visitation 4-8PM TODAY, February 7th at HOLCOMB-HENRY BOOM-PURCELL, 515 Hwy 96 W. @ Mackubin, Shoreview. Mass of Christian Burial 12 Noon (visitation begins at 11AM) Friday, February 8th at ST. ODILIA CATHOLIC CHURCH, 3495 N. Victoria, Shoreview. Interment Roselawn Cemetery. Memorials preferred to Our Lady of Peace Home, 2076 St. Anthony Ave. St. Paul, MN 55104 (www.franciscan care.org). Bob did it his way.
