Ruth Eliza MOLEAN Obituary
98, of St. Paul On June 13, 1919, Ruth was born in the rural Afton Township farmhouse of Peter and Eliza. With 11 siblings and in the depths of the Great Depression, Ruth was forced to leave school after the 8th grade. Though not being able to attend and graduate from high school was among her greatest regrets, Ruth accepted her lot without complaint. Instead, each morning Ruth would hitch a ride on the milk wagon to a streetcar stop where she then traveled to downtown St. Paul to work as a domestic, cooking and cleaning at boarding houses to help contribute to the family income. It was while employed at the Molean boarding house that Ruth first glimpsed the love of her life, Theodore. Though she would have to wait almost twenty years, Ruth finally reeled in her catch. On July 14th, 1951, Ruth and Ted began a marriage that would last more than 30 years. Though unable to have children of her own, Ruth became like a "second mother" to her many nieces and nephews. Although Ted's death, too, shortly after his retirement from 3M, was a sorrow Ruth would never completely overcome, she took it all in stride. Over the next three and a half decades, Ruth was able to find a bit of joy in every day and share it with her many friends and family members. Ruth was also a devoted parishioner and volunteer at Eastern Heights Lutheran Church, and until the final months of her life, she lived independently at the McKnight Village Apartments - where she was, by far, the longest continuous tenant. Over the course of a long and full life, Ruth loved and was loved by so many, many that have preceded her in death, and many more that will miss her dearly. A celebration of Ruth's life will take place at Eastern Heights Lutheran Church (616 Ruth St. N., St. Paul, MN) on Saturday, December 9th at 4:00 pm, with visitation two hours prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Eastern Heights Lutheran Church would be preferred. WULFF 651-776-1555 www.WulffFuneralHome.com
