An inspiration, a lovely women.

Dear Lillehei family,
On behalf of the Lasley family, I send my deepest and heartfelt condolences upon hearing of Kaye's death. She was one of my parent's oldest and dearest friends. Marianne, my mother, is in Heaven with Kaye probably playing bridge, tennis, skiing or ??? My dear mother met Kaye many years ago for she worked with Walt at the U of MN assisting Walt with research and open heart surgery. I remember all the times I got to spend with Kaye, Walt and my parents at Park Point. Later, my parents were able to travel to Sweden with Walt and Kaye along with countless other adventures. After Walt's passing, Kaye continued to be such a positive and supportive friend to my parents. After Marianne's passing, Kaye and B.J. would take time to be with my father, play bridge, or just chat. Just being a friend to my father, Bill, during his time of deep grief and sorrow was (and is) a priceless gift that Kaye gave to my parents (Mom in Heaven). Kaye died just two days before my sweet and beautiful sister, Kathleen M. Lasley. Kathleen died on November 6, 2012. I know Kaye was in Heaven with Marianne on November 6th welcoming Kathleen. Who would have thought that Kathleen's obituary would be on the same page right before Kaye's obituary in the St. Paul Pioneer Press obituary page on 11/11/12? Amazing indeed! So surreal. So sad for both our families. So sad for my sweet father, Bill Lasley. Heaven has two more bright angels- Kaye and Kathleen. Kaye will always be remembered. She is missed. Blessings to you all at this sad, sad time. Kaye was-and is-such an amazing, generous, kind and loving spirit. Peace, love, and blessings to you all,
Susan Lasley Saly

Kaye was one of the most generous and kind people I have ever met. I had the good fortune to know her professionally and personally. Her support of the university and of Eastcliff was constant. The Lillehei legacy will improve the lives of the University of Minnesota community and of all Minnesotans for generations.

Thinking of all of the Lillehei's right now! It's been 25 wonderful years of getting to know all of you, watching grand kids all grow, meeting new family members, and sharing in the loss of your loved ones. Thank you for entrusting us to help you create memories...and thanks for sharing your lives with us. Some of those crazy memories we'll keep to ourselves but the Silver Anniversary this summer was so very special. Hugs all around to a fantastic family. We'll miss your mom too. Kaye was a truly inspiring lady. She was a wonderful nurse in her own right. She was the power behind the man who made open heart surgery a reality. She raised a wonderful family who adored her. She found the strength and wisdom to apply her resources to endow and create wonderful legacies at the University of Minnesota Schools of Medicine and Nursing, and at other institutions which had touched her life. She did it all with a consummate and totally natural grace and selflessness. It was our eternal privilege to know her and to be her friend. As Walt used to say, Kaye left the world in better shape than she found it. She defined courage, graciousness, loyalty throughout her life. Kaye, we will miss you, and mostly, we are proud to have known you and everlastingly thankful for all your gifts to us and to everyone around you.

Kaye was a true inspiration to us. She is evidence that one person can make a great and positive difference in the world.

She was a friend, a mentor, a devoted mother, grandmother, and spouse.

We will miss her friendship, her great sense of humor, and her positive attitude.

Kaye was a leader in her family and in her community, where her heart led her to share her gifts of compassion, joyful spirit, fierce determination and uncommon generosity. While many think that one person can't change the world—Kaye knew better; she knew better because she lived it and she embodied it. Her personal and professional accomplishments are many and will have a lasting impact on the University of Minnesota, the Lillehei Heart Institutue and those who are fortunate to benefit from our discoveries. We all owe her our heartfelt gratitude for what she did to change the world, and we are all better for having known and loved her.

Kaye was an amazing woman, an inspiration and a wonderful mentor. Her love of family, her loyalty to friends and her devotion to her faith will be the way I remember her most. The most down to earth lady with a sense of style that we will never forget. We will miss you Kaye and thank you for everything. Our hearts are with your children and family--
