John Stephen LAPADAT Obituary
Longtime Shoreview Resident Age 78 John passed away peacefully on August 25, 2013, of congestive heart failure. He spent his life at the center of a large, boisterous, and loving family, who will miss their "Papa" terribly. He was grateful for every day of the 57 years he got to be married to Marianne Younghans, his high school sweetheart, the love of his life, and his inseparable companion. He was never happier than when he and his beloved "Mare" were surrounded by the affectionate bustle of a family gathering. Born in Beba Veche, Romania, John immigrated through Ellis Island at age one, and grew up on Rice Street in Saint Paul. He was a proud Romanian, a prouder American, and a dyed-in-the-wool Rice-Streeter, who loved to teach his grandchildren how to "talk Rice Street." He attended Washington High School, where he was a gifted multi-sport athlete. As a young man, he played professional baseball, and served in the US Marines. He was widely known and well-loved as an executive at Hamm's Brewery, and later as the owner of Lap's Liquors. He will be remembered for his animated storytelling, his fierce devotion to his family, his affection for golf and sports, his inexhaustible knowledge of Hollywood films and WWII history, his dark eyes, and his loving heart. Preceded in death by his father, Stephen Lapadat, mother, Eva Damien Lapadat and sister, Violet Erwin. Survived by wife Marianne, four children DeeDee Keswani (Scott Grausnick), John Jr. (Roxanne), Mary Jo Hoffman (Steve), Paul (Laurie), eleven grandchildren, Maxwell Keswani, Michael, Patrick, Gillian and Rhiannon Lapadat, Eva, Joseph and William Hoffman (deceased), Ryan, Sam and Daniel Lapadat; brother Steve Lapadat. Special thanks to the excellent care John received from his VA team especially Mike and Ken. Funeral Service at HOLCOMB-HENRY-BOOM-PURCELL, 515 Highway 96 West (at Mackubin) in Shoreview on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 12:00 noon with visitation beginning at 11AM. Burial at Fort Snelling.
