Anne Marjorie Tews SCHWAB obituary, Vienna, VA

Anne SCHWAB Obituary

45, of Grant, MN Passed away on Sunday, May 1st at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, peacefully and surrounded by her family. She suffered a sudden pontine hemorrhage (stroke) on April 28th. Anne was the much-loved wife of Christian Schwab, and mother of Jorie (19), JD (16), Reggie (14) and Louie (13) Schwab. She was the deeply-loved daughter of Jean and Dixon Tews (Mahtomedi), the cherished sister of Jennifer Shultz (Bob) and SallyJean Penna (David), and aunt of Anna Shultz (22), Jack Shultz (18), Abby Shultz (16), Katie Penna (8) and Rocco Penna (6). She leaves behind an extended network of cousins, aunts, uncles and many, many friends. Growing up in Mahtomedi, Anne spent countless hours sailing, skiing, making music and laughing – as well as causing the occasional bit of trouble – with a wide but very close network of family and friends. Her greatest loves, however, will always be her husband and four children, whom she adored, was so proud of and made her so happy – and who also cause the occasional bit of trouble. She passed like she lived, surrounded by people who loved her and always doing more than anyone could imagine for those around her. Anne was a 1988 graduate of Mahtomedi High School, a 1992 graduate of Wellesley College (cum laude), a 1994 graduate of the University of Minnesota (MA in Music Education/ Music Therapy) and a 2012 graduate of Hamline University (MFA in Creative Writing). She was a certified and practicing music therapist, a piano teacher, an author and novelist ("Capsized", Polaris Publications, 2013), a mentor for writing for incarcerated felons and a teacher and leader of both adult and children's writing classes at the White Bear Center for the Arts. She was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority, Tau Zeta Epsilon Society and the Minnesota Music Teachers Association. She was also a musician and performer, most recently as a member of the Century College Concert Band on the baritone saxophone. Anne was an intrepid blogger and an on-line writer of a Pirate Poem a Day and a daily haiku. Visitation will be at St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church, 2175 1st St., White Bear Lake, MN 55110 (www.stjohnwilderness.org) on Thursday, May 5th from 4:00-7:00 pm, and on Friday, May 6th at 12:00 pm. The funeral service will be at St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church at 1:00 pm on Friday May 6th. A reception at the church will follow the service. I had the wonderful opportunity of teaching three of Anne's kids at School of Rock. Anne and I had incredible conversations about early childhood music education, would tell stories and just laugh, she was so brilliant and down to earth. She impacted me with her light, intelligence, humor and incredibly big heart, she is very missed!

Anne's children attended my music school for many years. When the kids were younger, Anne would sit in the lobby, chat with the staff and other parents or read a book. She ALWAYS smiled. She NEVER complained. And she took whatever life dealt her with grace. Anne was truly one of God's best children.
