Francis O'Gara Obituary

MERRIMACK - Francis J. O'Gara Jr., 93, known as Ogie, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua after a brief illness.

He was born in Brighton, Mass., on Jan. 19, 1919, a son of the late Francis J. Sr. and Mary Irene (Tobin) O'Gara.

Frank was a graduate of Medford, Mass., High School and went to school at the Commercial Union Assurance Co. in New York. After graduating, he went to the Sadler Insurance Agency in Nashua in 1939, until enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1942.

After World War II, he returned to Merrimack and was employed with Slawsby Insurance Agency from 1946 to 2001.

He resided in Merrimack for 66 years, and had volunteered with many organizations, including the American Legion Post 98 in Merrimack, the Merrimack School Board, Merrimack Village District, and the building and planning committee of his church, Our Lady of Mercy.

Frank was an icon in town and everyone that had the pleasure of knowing him knew he always told a good joke. In the summer, he could be found relaxing on the porch in Moody Beach, Maine, or mowing one of the neighbors' lawns. Frank was always busy fixing or tinkering with something.

He is predeceased by a sister, Mary Marjorie Todd, and a brother, Richard T. O'Gara.

Members of his family include his love of his life for 70 years, Elizabeth "Libby" (Flanders) O'Gara, of Merrimack; a son and daughter in-law, Francis J. O'Gara III and Marilyn, of Merrimack; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara and William Phillips of Nashua, and Kathleen and Michael Duhaime of Merrimack; five grandchildren, Sally Stephens, Lisa Mayhew, Shawn O'Gara, Jillian Arsenault and Jon Duhaime; eight great-grandchildren, who he adored; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

.

SERVICES: Calling hours will be held Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack.
