Lawrence Cochrane Obituary

HIGH POINT, N.C. - Lawrence Russell "Larry" Cochrane, 71, passed away on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at Hospice Home at High Point. He was the loving fiancé of Jane P. Ewing.

A memorial service to celebrate Larry's life will be announced at a later date, according to the request of the family.

Larry was born on April 1, 1941, in Worcester, Mass. He was a son of the late Donald Porter Cochrane and Helen (Newcombe) Pierce. Larry worked as a vice president in sales and marketing, specializing in packaging and health products until his retirement a few years ago. He had been a resident of High Point since 1986 and was a member of The Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 961, a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church, and volunteered for High Point Regional Hospital, providing transportation for cancer patients in need.

Larry achieved an impressive resumé during his life. He was a series 7 licensed broker, a financial investor, a tax preparer (work he very much enjoyed), and was an avid coin collector. Larry was also an artist at heart, shown through his talents as a gifted poet and painter. He was also an athlete in his college days, playing for the 1960 Mid-American Ohio University football team in the Conference National Championship.

Larry enjoyed time with his family, especially summer gatherings at Lake Contoocook in Rindge, N.H. He was a very reserved man of few words and was a proud lifelong conservative Republican. He was described by his family as a good listener, extremely generous and a great father and uncle.

In addition to his fiancée, Jane, Larry is survived by two sons, Donald P. Cochrane of Free Union, Va., and John L. Cochrane and wife Julie of Hampton, N.H.; one sister, Marsha E. Born and husband William of Norwich, N.Y.; one brother, Frederick P. Cochrane and wife Kim of Fitchburg, Mass.; one granddaughter, Kora Grace Cochrane; and five nieces and their families, Margaret King, Kelly Cochrane, Laura Nevin, Michelle Diers and Corinne Waitleveritch.
