John Savage Obituary

RANDOLPH - John R. "Bob" Savage, 91, of Randolph, passed away on Friday July 26, 2013, at the Coos County Nursing Home in Berlin. He was born in Manchester, on Dec. 1, 1921, the son of Maurice and Katherine (O'Connor) Savage. He attended St. Joseph High School, St. Anselm College and Staunton Military Academy in Virginia.

Bob was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II; he was awarded three Purple Hearts.

He played pro baseball in Anzio, Italy, and in Austria and then played in the U.S. for the Philadelphia Athletics, the St. Louis Browns, the San Diego Padres and San Francisco as a pitcher. He taught physical education in Gorham schools and lastly was the registrar of probate for Coos County, retiring in 1986.

He is survived by his wife, Rita of Randolph, his children Bobbie and Jon Savage, his stepchildren, John Lyons of Saco, Maine, and Kathy Lyons of Orono, Maine, two grandchildren Ben and Sam Lyons.

SERVICES: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 31, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Gorham. Interment will follow in the Randolph Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 1 Promenade St., Gorham on Tuesday afternoon and evening from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Online guestbook at www.bryantfuneralhome.net.
