BARNSTEAD - Howard Foster Nichols, 84, of Boston and Barnstead died Feb. 21, 2013.
He is survived by his wife, Margery Pyne Nichols, of Barnstead Parade, and his three daughters and their families: Lucy Prentiss Nichols, James Farquhar, and Benjamin Foster Nichols-Farquhar of Greenfield; Nancy Jean Nichols, James McKim, and Andrew Nichols McKim and Katherine Gibson McKim of Goffstown; and Sally Foster Nichols and Gerald Lemoine of Swans Island, Maine. He is also survived by his first wife, Jean Edmands of Amherst.
He was a graduate of Needham High School, class of 1946, and Dartmouth College, class of 1950 and was a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran. He received his MBA from Boston University and was a CFA. He retired as vice president of BankBoston, in charge of closely held companies, after 35 years.
Nick, as he was also known, especially enjoyed gardening, skiing, photography, refurbishing old homes and furniture, and socializing within an extensive community of Dartmouth alumni and friends.

services: A funeral service will be held at Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave., Needham, Mass., on Friday, March 1, at 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be private. I knew Howard through our mutual work with the trust closely-held business group. He was always incisive and thoughtful and was a bit of a character, also.
We will miss him in our professional community.
