Doris L. Kashulines

Hopkinton - Doris L. (Ricard) Kashulines, 82, of Hopkinton, died June 10, 2014, at Concord Hospital following a brief illness.Doris was born Dec. 16, 1931, in Nashua to Irenee (Leo) and Bernadette M. (Boucher) Ricard. She attended Nashua schools, graduating in the upper quarter from Nashua Senior High School in 1949.Doris was an accomplished clarinetist and played lead clarinet in the high school band as well as in other orchestras and musical groups in surrounding communities. In 1951, she enlisted in the U.S. Air Force Band and became the solo clarinetist and concert miester of the first Women of the Air Force (WAF) Band.Doris married Martin Kashulines on March 20, 1952, in a chapel on Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas.After her discharge, she attended Nashua Business College, graduating first in her class with top scholastic honors. Subsequently, she held accounting positions with Merri-Maid Mfg. in Manchester as well as with Whitney Screw Corp. and the YWCA in Nashua. She and her husband purchased the Cracker Barrel Country Store in Hopkinton and operated it for several years before retiring. She enjoyed the business and community immensely. Along with her husband, she was active in the N.H. Growers Association, serving for a time as president of the Women's Auxiliary and as a director on the N.H. Food Industry Credit Union Board.Doris loved traveling with her husband and friends, which included taking trips to Europe, the Caribbean Islands and South America and, after retirement, a four-week trip to Alaska. She took great pleasure in cooking and especially in preparing cupcakes, brownies and cookies for family and friends.She was predeceased by her parents and sisters Beatrice Hill Gilker, May R. Sigismondo and Irene L. Tessier.Doris is survived by her husband of 62 years; her son, David; three grandchildren, Donald, Daniel and Deanna; a brother, Roland E. Ricard of Nashua; sisters Lillian A. LaFrance of Peterborough and Jean J. Canty of Medfield, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.


SERVICES: Calling hours will be held Monday, June16, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., Concord. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 17, at 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Cemetery in Hudson.The Bennett Funeral Home of Concord is in charge of the arrangements.
