Francis C. Gallup

SUNAPEE - Francis C . Gallup, 89, of Harbor Hill Road, died Nov. 25, 2012, at his home.

He was born in Willimantic, Conn., on Feb. 20, 1923, the son of Charles and Ruth E. (Barber) Gallup.

A man of varied talents, he proudly served his country during World War II as a P38 crew chief in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

Frank began work with his father, Charles F. Gallup Builder. In 1959, Frank moved to Sunapee where he owned and operated Four Seasons Lodge with his first wife, Norma, until her death in 1969.

He then began work at the New London Hospital, first as an orderly and then in the outpatient department. He was clerk of the works for the William P. Clough Extended Care Center and then was the first registered administrator.

In 1972, Frank was employed by Sugar River Bank and was the first vice president, serving at the Warner branch and retiring in 1985. After his retirement he served on the Board of Trustees for Sugar River Bank until 2008.

Frank was a member of South Congregational Church in Newport and served as treasurer and on the hospitality committee. He was president and treasurer of many different groups. He served on the board for Lake Sunapee Region Visiting Nurse Association, was a member of the Sunapee Lions Club, the Senior Citizens, the Sunapee Historical Society and was Sunapee town treasurer.

For many years he was on the Concord Group Insurance Co. board and was still serving in that capacity.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Norma Anthony Gallup and a grandson, Brook Gallup. Members of his family surviving include his wife, Carolyn "Lyn" (Miller) Gallup of Sunapee; two sons and wives, Richard C. and Robin Gallup of the Virgin Islands and Maine and Charles A. and Christine Gallup of Concord; a stepdaughter and her husband, Karin and Steve Scott of Portsmouth and grandsons, Alexander Gallup, T.J. Scott and granddaughter Devin Scott.


SERVICES: A celebration of Frank's life will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at South Congregational Church in Newport.Memorial contributions may be made to Lake Sunapee Regional Visiting Nurse Association Hospice, PO Box 2209, New London 03257 or to South Congregational Church, 20 Church St., Newport 03773.
