Obituary

AMHERST -- Ed Schmidt, 59, died Oct. 17, 2009, at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua, surrounded by loving family.

He was born in Rochester, N.Y., April 23, 1950; to George E. and Pauline Gehret Schmidt. He was a graduate of Greece Olympia High School in Rochester, N.Y.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War.

Following a career in electronics and computer technology at Kodak and Digital Equipment Corp., he founded EDI Ltd., a creative consulting company that he owned from 1993 until his retirement in 2006.

He was an Eagle Scout, Napoleonic scholar, world traveler, gourmet cook, and he meticulously restored antique furniture and clocks. He and his wife enjoyed fly fishing, skiing, horseback riding, and their cats, Maurice and Gris, but most of all he loved spending time with his granddaughters.

Family members include his wife of 29 years, Debra Curtis of Amherst; a daughter, Brenda Evensen of Parkland, Fla.; five brothers, David Schmidt of Rochester, N.Y., Christopher Schmidt of Chili, N.Y., Doug Schmidt of King Ferry, N.Y., Raymond Schmidt of Lancaster, Ohio, and Andrew Schmidt of Eagle Mountain, Utah; two grandchildren; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

SERVICES: There are no calling hours and services are private.
