WOLFEBORO -- Howard R. Carlton Sr., 84, died March 11, 2010, at Huggins Hospital.

He was born Nov. 12, 1925, in Lynn, Mass., to Everett and Beatrice Fern (Mooney) Carlton. He lived in Wolfeboro since 1987, moving from Manchester, Conn.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Headquarters Battery 880th FA Battalion, 69th Division and often served as an Army bugler. He also played the trumpet during the Big Band Era.

He retired from Pratt and Whitney in East Hartford, Conn., where he was a metal spinner for many years.

He was a member of First Congregational Church of Ossipee, a past member of the American Legion, he drove for Molly the Trolley, Millers Auto Dealership, Trites Auto Dealership and Mountain View Nursing Home.

He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Helen (Seavey) Carlton, in December 2004.

Family members include two sons, Howard Carlton Jr. of Enfield, Conn. and Richard Carlton of Tamworth; two daughters, Ruth Ann Zorger of Manchester, Conn. and Barbara Jean Fish of Southbridge, Mass.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

SERVICES: Visiting Hours are Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at First Congregational Church of Ossipee in Center Ossipee. A Celebration of Life will follow at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Wolfeboro later in the spring.
