Nona Lorraine Knapp Cockerham

Nona Lorraine Knapp Cockerham, 82, Medora, went to heaven at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at the residence of her daughter, with her loving family by her side.
Mrs. Cockerham worked many places after her children were older, including Domestic Laundry, Heritage House and as a caregiver. She spent most of her life caring and giving to others, which made her the happiest.
Born Feb. 11, 1928, in Columbus, she was the daughter of "Little" Clark Knapp and Armilda Gates Knapp, both of whom preceded her in death. On Aug. 18, 1945, she married Jakie Earl Cockerham, who preceded her in death Sept. 25, 1999.
Survivors include five children, Joann Wheeler, Clearspring, Rose Mary Cox, Medora, Stanley Earl (Connie) Cockerham, Medora, Jakie Allan (Joni) Cockerham, Freetown, and Barbara (Jeff) Cowles, Salem; 11 grandchildren, Mike "Hippy" Cox, Cherie Cox, Melissa (Ricky) Underwood, Jody (Jessi Barr) Cockerham, Jeremy Cockerham, whom she raised, Jerrica (Chancy) Ault, Jessi (James) Hessig, all of Medora, Jackie (DJ) Diener, Louisville, Ky., and Nick, Mark and Luke Cockerham, all of Seymour; 18 great-grandchildren, Shalie, Cassie, Chelsie, Brady, Caitlin, Bryce, Brelee, Destiny, Ayrianna, Lilly, Kyle, Ramey, Chancler, Hunter, Kalijah, Waylon, Brenden and Landon; and a friend, Bobby T.
She was preceded in death by a son, David Cockerham; grandson, Brian Davidson; five brothers, James Knapp, Cecil Knapp, Floyd Knapp, Earl Knapp and Carl Knapp; and one sister, Irene Knapp Daily.
Complying with her wishes, cremation was chosen. Nona had always asked her family to have a celebration party for her.
The Rev. Joshua Deering will conduct a celebration of her life at 6 p.m. Friday at Medora Christian Church.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the church.
Memorials may be given to Schneck Foundation Hospice Fund or Medora Christian Church Youth Fund.
