YARMOUTH, Maine - Barbara Ann Shove, 71, of Durham died Dec. 17, 2012, at Brentwood Manor.

She was born in Boston on Jan. 19, 1941, the daughter of Anne (Cummings) and Donald Lewis. She grew up on the family farm, belong to 4-H and attended Weare, N.H., schools. For three years while at Weare High School, Barbara was the recipient of the Betty Crocker Award. On Nov. 18, 1961, she married the love of her life, Malcolm Shove, in Weare. The family moved to Gray to farm, and she enjoyed planting flowers, vegetables and canning. After many years of farming, Barbara and her husband moved to Durham, where she worked as a stitcher and retired from L.L. Bean.

Barbara enjoyed crafts such as ceramics, knitting, crocheting, cross-stitch and tole painting. She was also excellent at decorating cakes, especially wedding cakes. She readily shared her exceptional talent for cooking with her children and grandchildren, making the experience both educational and enjoyable. She had a natural talent as a teacher. She also collected pigs.

Barbara will be remembered for her lively and creative spirit, her easy way of being "strict" with teaching the important lessons of life and the fantastic marriage she gave to Malcolm and "the good life" those years brought him. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed playing games with them.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Malcolm Shove of Durham; her son, Timothy Shove of Lisbon; her daughter, Deborah Croteau and her fiancé Carl Rowe and his son Dillon Rowe, of Saco; her three granddaughters, Amelia Croteau, Courtney Croteau and Gabrielle Croteau; her brothers, Donald Lewis and his wife Irene, of Florida, Thomas Lewis and his wife Davideen, of New Hampshire; and many nieces and nephews.
