Donald Hardwick Obituary

FRANCESTOWN - Donald "Donnie" Harry Hardwick Sr. died Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Sept. 2, 1958, in Peterborough, to Carl Hardwick Sr. and Dorothy (Hoyt) Hardwick.

An avid hunter, he loved the outdoors and appreciated open spaces. He helped to conserve special properties for multiple use, including sustainable forestry practices. Donnie was sure to have passed on his appreciation for the outdoors and the importance of high values and integrity to all that knew him.

Donald was a dedicated, hard-working entrepreneur, creating many jobs for locals through the years. He formed D.H. Hardwick & Sons, Inc., a logging, construction and gravel business in Bennington. He was also successful in land investments and instrumental in the opening of PB &H Equipment, a small business on Route 9 in Antrim.

More recently, Donnie and a partner purchased the old Onset/Crotched Mountain ski area property in Bennington, which resulted in the reopening of the new Crotched Mountain Ski area. Through the years he enjoyed participating in many community events and fund-raisers. He will be remembered as a pillar of the community and will always be held in the highest regard.

Donnie was a longtime member of New Hampshire Timberland Owners Association. He served on the Board of Directors for the New Hampshire Timber Harvesting Council and was also a longtime member of the New Hampshire Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa (Sharby) Hardwick; four sons, Donald Hardwick Jr., Jaceb Hardwick, Benjamin Hardwick and Joseph Hardwick; 10 grandchildren; three brothers and four sisters. All live in either Francestown or Bennington, growing up in the shadow of Crotched Mountain, a place of treasured memories. Family gatherings were always a big event to him. He was always a playful kid at heart, enjoying activities with his boys, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

I am remembering when Donny & I were young traveling to work in a beat up pickup truck. Donny had picked up on my difficulty with word pronunciation. Every morning he would pick 3 of my problem words and teach me to say them correctly. On the way home we would review that days words. He continued daily (with or without my cooperation). He was both patient and
persistent. I will allways remember Donny. Bog.

To ALL the Hardwick family, My thought and prayers are with you. All good memories from such a long time ago when he was running the snowcats on the mountain, to having breakfast at Gram and Gramps on opening day of hunting season with the family.
It was a pleasure to have done business with him and his family over the years.
Happy Hunting where they grow BIG deer!

My deepest sympathy to Mrs. Hardwick, Donnie Jr, Jeb, Ben and Joey. Don was such a great friend to me. He always had a smile on his face every time I saw him. He always shared words of advise and encouraged me. Don was one of the kindest and most honest people I have ever met. I will never forget you Don.

We bought our land from Don after he logged it. He did a great job on the logging and was very fair, honest, and followed through on all aspects. He was a nice person who was a pleasure to deal with. We've often remarked about what fine work he did compared to others' work we've seen. We always thought of him as the best.

We're very sorry to learn of his passing and offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends.
