MANCHESTER - Donald R. Henry reached his final summit on Oct. 23, 2012. He was 93 years of age.

A lifelong resident of Manchester, he was born Nov. 28, 1918, to Margaret (MacDonald) Henry and Harley Henry. He served during World War II with the 39th Air Depot Group, a medical detachment stationed in Alaska. There he met Pauline, his wife of 65 years, who he lost in June.

An avid hiker well into his 80s, he climbed Mt. Monadnock weekly as a member of the "Woodshed Gang." Don's home was testament to his skills with wood and stone.

He is survived by his children, Dona Varnavas of Beverly, Mass., Vernon Henry, Robyn Henry, Heidi Hendry, Brenda and husband Jason Kay; grandsons Gavriel and Keller Kay.


services:Calling hours will be Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Cate & Johnson Funeral Home, 573 Pine St., corner of Harrison Street in Manchester. Funeral service will be conducted on Monday at 11 a.m. in Cate & Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Manchester.
