Gerard Remillard Obituary

AUBURN - Gerard Henri Remillard, 85, of Auburn and Englewood, Fla., died March 6, 2015, at his Florida residence surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Manchester on Dec. 29, 1929, he was the son of Henri and Mary (Jobin) Remillard. He was educated in the Manchester school system and graduated from Central High School, class of 1950, and served honorably in the U.S. Navy.

Prior to retirement, he was a New Hampshire State Trooper sergeant for many years. In 1973 he received the Union Leader "Hero Award" for being one of seven officers who risked their lives to save nine people who had plunged through the ice of Lake Massabesic in Auburn.

Above all else, he will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who cherished time spent with family and sought out ways to help all those that he loved in any way that he possibly could.

Gerry is survived by his wife, Shirley; three sons, Jerry Edward, Bruce Maurice, Thomas Henry Paige and spouse, Lorraine; two sisters, Madeleine Despins, Gertrude Croteau; sister-in-law, Phyllis Breton; and seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

We had the honor and the pleasure of having Gerry as our neighbor for more than 5 years. We cherished those 5 years. On the first day we realized his generosity and compassion for family and friends. Although my senior I felt as if we were the same. What a wonderful friend. He was truly a remarkable man and being around him helped me become a better person. We will be forever grateful for having him as a friend. A man that not only toughed our hearts, but touched our souls as well. You will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
