MADISON - Kevin H. Smith, 77, of Hill Road, Town of Madison and formerly of Boonville, passed away due to complications of COVID-19, on Monday, December 14, 2020, at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital, New Hartford.
Kevin was born in Albany, NY, on December 19, 1942, a son of Joseph T. and Marjorie Hoit Smith. He graduated from Boonville Central School with the Class of 1962. After graduation, Kevin traveled across the United States to California. He was later employed for Eastern Rock Products Company and went on to become Plant Superintendent, before retiring from the Oriskany Falls plant.
He was married to Katherine Smith in 1968.
Above all, Kevin enjoyed spending time with his sons in the Big Moose area, fishing and hunting.
Kevin was a life member of Boonville Elks Lodge, # 2158 and a member of Sons of the American Legion, Oriskany Falls.
Kevin is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Craig and Jeanne Smith and Ryan Smith, all of Big Moose. He was predeceased by a son, J.J., who passed away as an infant. In addition, he leaves a very dear friend, Heidi Schenk; five grandchildren, Robbin, Rachel, Renee, all of Old Forge and Iris, of Big Moose and Connor, of Florida; three sisters, Sharon Belyea, Laurie Capron, both of Boonville and Licia and brother-in-law, Steve Mackey, Glens Falls. Kevin was predeceased by a sister, Gail S. "Hoedy" Pruckno, on September 17, 2011; and by two brothers-in-law, Peter Belyea and George Capron. Also surviving are three nieces, Anne Charbonneau, Jill McConnell, both of Boonville and Heather Mackey, El Portal, CA; and four nephews, Chris Capron, Centennial, CO, Dan Capron, Newport, NY and Brad and Robert Kornmeyer.
Kevin's family wishes to express a note of sincere thanks and appreciation to the dedicated nurses on the ICU Wing and the Special Care Unit of St. Luke's Memorial Hospital.
A Memorial Service will be held in the spring.
