Dean R. Wolanin

Dean R. Wolanin, 57, passed away unexpectedly on December 8, 2010. He was born May 5, 1953, in Utica, a son of William J., Sr., and Josephine M. Belden Wolanin. Dean was a graduate of Notre Dame High School Class of 1972 and attended Herkimer County Community College. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1972 serving in Thailand during the Viet Nam War and was honorably discharged in 1975. Dean was united in marriage to Mary Leahy on October 6, 1979. Mr. Wolanin was employed by Smith Packing, Utica, and presently by Casa Imports, Utica. Dean was a quiet unassuming person; he was proud of the accomplishments of his son and daughter. He enjoyed cooking and caring for his mother. Survivors include his two children, Dean L. Wolanin and Sarah E. Wolanin, both of Albany; their mother, Mary Leahy, Ilion; his mother, Josephine Wolanin, with whom Dean resided; his sisters and brothers, Jo Ann Price, Marcy, William and his wife, Sharon Wolanin, Westernville, Marguerite Banek, Yorkville, David and his wife, Susan Wolanin, Whitesboro, Suzanne Wolanin and Claire Jenny, Clinton; also several nieces, nephews, other relative and friends. He was predeceased by his father, William; nephew, Thomas Price, III; two brothers-in-law, Thomas Price, Jr., and Alfred Banek. Deans funeral will be Saturday, December 11, 2010, at 9:15 a.m. from Wolanin Funeral Home, Inc., 266 Main Street, New York Mills, and at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, New Hartford. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Whitestown. Calling hours will be Friday, December 10, 2010, from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider the American Heart Assoc. or the New York Mills Fire Dept. To Dean's Family My heart goes out to you at this terrible time. I worked with Dean at Casa Imports and he always sang me a song in the morning "Its Magic" he always made me smile and laugh.
