Sister Edward Marie Seubert, OSF 1924 - 2018
SYRACUSE - Sister Edward Marie (Marion Elizabeth) Seubert, went home to God on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at the Franciscan Villa in Syracuse, New York.
Sister was born in Utica, New York, to Edward John and Dorothy Mary (Achen) Seubert. She was 93 years old and had been a Sister of St. Francis for 72 years.
She received a Bachelor's Degree from the College of St. Rose in Albany, New York, and a Master's in Business Education from Catholic University of America. Sister taught in schools in Syracuse, Utica, Amsterdam, Albany and Oswego, NY, as well as Riverside and New Brunswick, New Jersey. Her early teaching experience spanned first through seventh grades, all four years of high school and instruction at Maria Regina College in Syracuse, New York. Sister served as principal of an elementary school in Fulton, New York. In 1978, she was asked to serve as Treasurer of Maria Regina College, a post she held until the College surrendered its charter in 1989.
Sister was also involved in various forms of service to her religious community, including Receptionist and Bookkeeper at St. Francis Social Adult Day Care Center, Transportation Coordinator for Jolenta Convent and Office Assistant in the Community Finance Office. She currently had been a powerful prayer minister for the Sisters of St. Francis.
Sister will be remembered for her love of God's sunshine and the outdoors, her endless wit, (sense of humor), her singing and playing the violin, being a member of the Hospice Harmony Singers, and her love of Community, family and her God.
Sister was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Richard F. Seubert; four sisters, Sister M. Constance Seubert, OSF, Dorothy L. Seubert, Mildred E. (Vincent Fox; Raymond) Merrill, and Gertrude S. (William) Williams; and a niece, Ms. Kathleen Kennelty. She is survived by two nephews, Russell Williams and Paul Fox; five nieces, Judith Daviau, Anne Marie Fox, Mrs. Monica Haley, Susan Prevette and Carol Williams; and the Sisters of St. Francis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. at the Franciscan Villa Chapel, 6900 Buckley Road, Syracuse, NY 13212. Calling hours will be from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel. A farewell service will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at the Franciscan Villa Chapel. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery.
