Wonderful Wife, Mother & Grandmother
ILION - Mrs. Eileen E. Blovat, of 115 Brand Street, Ilion, and a resident of Folts Brook Nursing Center in Herkimer since April 2014, died there peacefully on Friday, January 11, 2019.
Eileen was born in Utica, the daughter of Leamon and G. Ethel (Bunce) Steele, and was a graduate of Mohawk High School, Class of 1948.
She was united in marriage to Harold C. Blovat on October 22, 1955, in the Methodist Church in Little Falls, by Rev. Robert U. Holmes, Pastor.
Eileen was employed at first by the Utica Observer Dispatch in the Ilion office from 1949-1958 in the classified advertising and distribution office, in which she was in charge of. While raising her family, she took a leave of absence from work until 1979, when she was the secretary for the Ilion Methodist Church. She retired from there in 1999.
She and her husband, Harold, traveled extensively and enjoyed dining out. Their travels included Ireland, walking on the Great Wall of China, the Tulip fields of the Netherlands, climbing the Eiffel Tower, a gondola ride in Grans Canal in Venice, being startled by the "Snake Charmer" in Marrakech, Morocco, shopping in the "Stanley Market" in Hong Kong and swimming in the waters of Waikiki.
Eileen was a great cook and baker and enjoyed her home, and she loved her church and the many friends there and throughout the area. She was a member of the Reformed Church of Mohawk. She especially loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and considered her granddaughters as her own "Special Daughters" and her sons were her "Blessings".
She is survived by her devoted husband, Harold, who never missed a day while she was at the nursing home; her sons, Chester Blovat and William "Bill" Blovat, both of Ilion; her grandchildren, Trisha and her husband, Jon Boucher, of Ilion, Chelsea Blovat, of Ilion, Sarah and her husband, Jason Zawatski, of Pittsford, NY, and Elizabeth, Seth and Jacob Blovat, all of Ilion; her great-grandchildren, Carsen and Brice Boucher, of Ilion, Emma Zawatski, of Pittsford, and Charlie Lawrence, of Mohawk; a sister and her husband, Jane A. and David Urtz, of Mohawk; her in-laws, Fred Blovat, of Moreno Valley, CA, and David and Evelyn Blovat, of Saddle River, NJ; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins and friends. She was predeceased by sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris and James Windecker, and Lois and Carl Treen, her father and mother-in-law, Chester and Bernice (Mikus) Blovat, and Stanley Mikus, along with a sister-in-law, June Blovat and Ernest and Jeanne Sutkowski.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at Noon at the Reformed Church, 20 South Otsego Street, Mohawk, with Rev. Brian Engle officiating. Burial will be in the Spring in the North Columbia Cemetery. Calling hours are on Monday, January 14th, from 4-7 PM at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West Street, Ilion, New York.
Harold and his family will also receive friends from 11 AM until the time of the services at the church.
Eileen's husband, Harold, and family truly appreciate the care given to her during her residency at Folts Home, especially to the staff on the third floor; you are appreciated and Thank You so much.
