N. UTICA - William "Poppa" Boucher, 82, of N. Utica, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, January 10, 2019, surrounded by the love of his wife and son.
William was born March 12, 1936, in Utica, NY, the son of the late Clayton and Margaret (MacRae) Boucher. Bill was raised locally and attended Utica schools. Bill served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. On March 25, 1957, Bill married Jean E. Zalewski, his childhood sweetheart, a blessed union of 62 years. Bill was employed with Utica Cutlery Company for 35 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1998. He was a member of American Legion Post #229.
Poppa enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels in his yard daily, playing his nightly lottery numbers, the casino, bingo with his wife, word searches and old time movies.
Bill was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Poppa will be sadly missed by his beloved wife, Jean, and his children and grandchildren, who he also loved dearly.
Bill is survived by his wife, Jean; his children, Deborah Boucher-Cardinal, Karen Boucher and William Boucher, Jr., and Alison Sault-McDonagh, all of Utica; five cherished grandchildren, Kyle Cardinal and his wife, Brittney, of Camillus, Zachary Cardinal and his wife, Eileen, of Poland, William Boucher, III, Paige Boucher, the joy of his life as being the first granddaughter, and Ahlana Boucher; two brothers, Richard, of New York Mills, and Clayton and wife, Sharon, of Remsen; one sister, Carol Ann Williams, of Floyd; a sister-in-law, Barbara Boucher, of Biloxi, MS; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Boucher and Captain Donald Boucher, and in-laws, Elizabeth "Betty" Boucher, Mary "Minnie" Boucher and Ernest Williams.
A service for Mr. Boucher will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at 1:00 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Calling hours at the funeral home are from 11-1. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro.
Mr. Boucher's family would like to thank Dr. Christopher Clark and Jean for the compassionate care they provided. Bill enjoyed good health until the past year as his health declined. He was appreciative of the care he was given by his wife, Jean, and daughter, Karen.
