JAMESVILLE/SYRACUSE - Robert D. Batley, Lt. Col. USAR, 94, of Jamesville and Syracuse, NY, passed away of natural causes at Sunnyside Care Center in East Syracuse, NY, on April 28, 2019.
He was born on July 9, l924, to the late Clinton D. and Helen (Davis) Batley in Utica, NY. His brother, Stearns (Hank), preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Robin (Nagy) Batley. Also surviving are his children, Robyn (John) Hill and Dustin (Diane) Batley; stepsons, Drew and Stephen Yoggy; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Bob served in the U.S. Army during WW II and continued in the Army Reserves until 1984, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. He graduated from Clarkson College of Technology (now Clarkson University) in 1948 as an electrical engineer and went on to work for Westinghouse Electrical Corp as a sales engineer for his entire career, achieving the President's Circle Award and the Westinghouse Community Service Award.
Service to his community and his faith was important to Bob and he was an active member of Pebble Hill Presbyterian Church and Eastwood Rotary Club and was a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and a devoted alumnus of Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY. Bob was always willing to assume leadership roles having served on, often as president or chair, numerous boards and committees throughout his lifetime. He was awarded the Young Man of the Year Award in Johnson City, NY, in 1959.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Pebble Hill Presbyterian Church, 5299 Jamesville Road, DeWitt, NY, on Saturday, May 25, at 11:00. Private interment will be in New Forest Cemetery in Utica, NY.
Contributions can be made in Bob's name to either the Rotary Foundation or the Clarkson University Alumni Association.
