William W. Heneka, 85, of Utica, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at home, with his loving family by his side. His wife, Patricia, the love of his life, cared for him with devotion until the end. Bill was born on February 23, 1929, in Utica, the son of Walter and Leona (McBride) Heneka. He was a graduate of UCA and attended Utica College. On September 6, 1952, Bill married Patricia A. Byrne in Blessed Sacrament Church, a blessed union of 61 years. He was employed as a plumber with HJ Brandeles Corp. in Utica. Bill was a 59-year member of the Plumber and Steamfitters Union. He was also a life-long member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and a member of the William E. Burke Utica Council #189 Knights of Columbus. Bill was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who had a profound connection with nature and spent many years with his family at the St. Lawrence, affectionately referred to as "The River". He loved to fish, especially with his children and grandchildren, and would look forward to the hard-boiled egg picnics. Bill was an avid fan of the Yankees, Rangers, Giants and Lawrence Welk. Surviving Bill are his beloved wife, Patricia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Julie (Grimsteed) Heneka, Albany, and Daniel and Susan Heneka, Clayton; daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Richard Citrenbaum, Ventura, CA; grandchildren, Gretchen Thomas, Patricia (Daniel) Emord, William Heneka, Sandra Heneka, Hunter Trahan, Shayna Citrenbaum and Cole Citrenbaum; sisters-in-law, Susan Heneka and Priscilla Byrne; and several nieces and nephews. William was predeceased by a brother, John (Jack) Heneka, and sister, Ann Heneka. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Saturday from 3-6 p.m. at Nunn & McGrath Funeral Directors, 470 French Rd., Utica. Funeral services will be Monday at 9:30 from the funeral home and 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Bill's family would like to thank Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., for the care and compassion shown to him in his time of need.
