Handyman and Mechanic
UTICA/DEERFIELD, NY - Mr. David P. Warchal, 61, a lifelong resident of Utica and Deerfield, died Monday, July 11, 2016, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, with his family at his side.
David was born in Utica on April 6, 1955, the son of Jane (Riley) Warchal of Utica and the late Chester Warchal, and was a graduate of Proctor High School, Class of 1973. While in high school, David set a pole vault record that still stands today.
He was united in marriage to the former Karen Giordano on May 28, 1977, in Utica. They recently celebrated 39 years marriage.
David was employed by the United Parcel Service (UPS) as a Fleet Manager for over 25 years, recently retiring from there due to his health.
His interests included membership in the Price Shopper Golf League, playing cards, and as a musician and comedian, entertaining his family and friends. He was the family "Handyman" and "Mechanic" and would tackle any project. His utmost priority was his wife, children and especially his grandchildren.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Karen; his mother, Jane Warchal, of Utica; his son and his wife, Dr. David P. and Allison Warchal, Jr., of Cicero, NY; his daughters, Dr. Alaina and Matthew Keem, of Ontario, NY, and Amanda Warchal and Patrick Callahan, of Utica; his brother and his wife, Michael and Holly Warchal, of Utica; his sisters and their husbands, Mary Ellen and Ron Windham, of Osceola, IN, and Christine, and her husband, Joe Saporito, of Utica; his grandchildren, Lilliana Keem, Evan Keem, Andrew Keem, Olivia and Emma Warchal; his father and mother-in-law, Peter and Dolores Giordano, of Utica; sisters-in-law, Valerie (Joseph) Mastrangelo and Lisa (John) Skowron; a brother-in-law, Peter (Laurie) Giordano; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and several close friends.
A celebration of David's life will be held on Thursday, July 14th, at 7 PM, at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Road, North Utica. Friends may call from 4-7 PM, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the America Cancer Society, 100 Lomond Court, Utica, NY 13502, in his memory.
