Sheila Beaton Obituary
UTICA - Sheila M. Beaton, 76, died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 20, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
She was born on July 11, 1941, in Utica, the daughter of the late Nicholas E. and Mary (Hanley) Denn. Sheila attended Our Lady of Lourdes School, St. Francis de Sales and earned a Bachelor's degree from the College of St. Rose. She worked as a teacher in Rome, Italy, and later at UFA. On October 22, 1966, Sheila married Lynn S. Beaton at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes. They celebrated 40 years of marriage prior to his death on May 13, 2007.
Sheila, or "Bea", the name given to her by her grandchildren, was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. She spent some of her best times golfing and socializing with dear friends of all ages at Cedar Lake Club. For over 40 years, Sheila and her entire family have enjoyed being part of the Elephant Stew Ski Club. The Elephants, along with her cherished friends of Covenant Community, have been and continue to be a source of love, friendship, support for all Beatons. Sheila was especially proud of her home on Talcott Road where many memorable celebrations and spontaneous gatherings of neighbors and friends were common.
Sheila is survived by her children, Michael Beaton, Matthew (Regan) Beaton, Daniel (Jill) Beaton, Mary (Thomas) Ek, David (Rebecca) Beaton, Andrew (Lori) Beaton and Nicholas Beaton; 16 loving grandchildren; siblings, Rev. James Denn, CSC, Sister Maureen Denn, CSJ, and Mary E. Denn; and daughter-in-law, Margaret Beaton. Sheila is also survived by her in-laws, Gary (Elizabeth) Beaton, Bonnie (John) Carvelli, Eric (LouAnn) Beaton, and sister-in-law, Marcia Beaton (Joseph Beaton, deceased). She was predeceased by brothers, Edward N., Thomas P., William H., and John N. Denn.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday (today) from 2 to 6 p.m. at McGrath, Myslinski, Karboski & Nunn Funeral Directors, 470 French Rd., Utica. Funeral services will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home and 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made with a donation to The Thea Bowman House or Hope House. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Sheila was loved and supported by many friends throughout her life. Her family is eternally grateful for this and the support they are receiving.

Dear Beaton Family,
We are so saddened to hear about Sheila's passing. She was such a beautiful, bright and shining soul. It was only a few months ago that we were blessed with her presence at my own mom's services. She shared, in her exuberant way, such fun and lively stories about my mom (Ruth) and made us all laugh and remember fondly such great times. I remember fondly, when I was lifeguarding at Cedar Lake her passion for getting Nick to put his face in the water and her pure delight when he finally accomplished it by the end of his lessons. Her zest for life will be greatly missed among your family, but hopefully the memories will provide comfort and joy as time heals your sorrow.
