David Riley Obituary

David J. Riley 1969 - 2021
WHITESBORO - David J. Riley, 51, of Whitesboro, passed away, unexpectedly and not from Covid, on Monday, April 5, 2021 at his home, with his loving family and dogs, Buddy and Zeus, by his side.
Affectionately known as "Hot Rod Dave", he was born on October 13, 1969, in New Hartford, NY, the son of the late James and Merry (Lord) Riley and was educated in Whitesboro Schools. Dave was employed as an auto mechanic with his close friends, Ray Romanus, of Bristol Auto Sales, Mike DePalma and most recently, with Burkhart Automotive, Yorkville.
Dave had a passion for cars and was an expert, meticulous mechanic. He was the head mechanic when it came to building and working on the Burkart drag cars. Dave enjoyed building and running his gas powered radio controlled boats. He also enjoyed entertaining family and friends with a good barbecue and attending the Truck Frenzy on Wednesdays.
Surviving are his brothers, Michael and Joseph Riley, both of Utica; an Aunt; many cousins, including his caregiver and cousin, Sarah Mulvey and his "Partner in Crime", Amber VanEtten and her children, Emma and Jessie VanEtten, who Dave treated like his own.
Dave's family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Susan Griffing for all her wonderful care and compassion.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Friday from 4-6 p.m. at Dimbleby Funeral Homes, Inc., 40 Main St., Whitesboro. Masks must be worn and proper social distancing will be implemented. Interment will be in the Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Remembrances in Dave's name may be made to Stevens - Swan Humane Society, 5664 Horatio St., Utica, NY 13501 or flowers for his services.
