GERALD GELLER Obituary

GELLER, GERALD Gerald Geller born in the Bronx, N.Y. on December 12, 1928, passed away on October 8, 2009, at the San Diego Hospice. He was an artist: painter, graphic designer and for the past 28 years a great photographer. He did colorful photos of everyday places and everyday people, all over ther world, especially in San Diego where he and his wife made their home for the past twenty-six years. He published a book in 2005 that was called "San Diego's San Diego." The cover of this book has Gerald's "Pacific Beach Castle Builders" taken in 1986. This photograph became immensely popular and was published worldwide. It was published in Popular Photography in the January 1996 issue, endorsed by Nikon, and it won first prize. It was also published in American Photo magazine. His photos were exhibited at the Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego, San Diego Convention Center and at the International Exhibition of Photography at the Del Mar Fair and other places. He was a quiet, gentle, independent man that walked the streets of San Diego with his camera. He is predeceased by his younger sister, Carol Ilson. He is survived by his beloved wife, Rita, older brother Lester, brothers-in-law, Dr. Jules Rako, Bernie Ilson, sister-in-law, Bunny Geller, many nieces and nephews, and the many young people the Gellers surrounded themselves with. He will be greatly missed.

I did not know my uncle very well but I do remember him being very kind to me when I did see him. I am impressed by his artistry. Rest in peace Uncle Gerry
