Loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother
Barbara Sue Conner, 71, of Williamsburg passed away peacefully on Monday, March 12, 2012, surrounded by family and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Donald Dawson, and is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Lawrence (Moose) Conner, and their six children: Shay (Thomas) Samuel, Donna (Johnny) Thompson, Joseph (Jeanne) Conner, Beth (Linwood) Otey, Nancy (Dale) Smith, and Debbie (Sean) Duff.
Barbara was a wonderful wife and mother. For those who knew her, she was also an incredible friend, caregiver, and grandmother. In addition to her own children, Barbara had six grandchildren: Chea Lemus, Heather and Adam Helms, James and Chris Wallace, and Avalon Davis. She also had three great-grandchildren.
She grew up in the mountains of Colorado with her beloved brothers, Ray and Paul Dawson. After moving to Illinois, she met her love, and there they raised a wonderful family together. Job relocation brought Larry and Barbara to Williamsburg, which they have considered home for more than 40 years. She was a lover of literature, reading, and fine arts, but enjoyed nothing more than quality time with those she loved. Having a large family of her own and being a part of both her large family and her husband's afforded her many great opportunities to travel, something she truly valued. While her curiosity and exploration were limitless, Barbara's true love and final resting place is the beach.
Barbara was a devout Catholic and very active in the community at St. Olaf Catholic Church, where she and Larry were members for many years. A memorial service will be held at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 104 Norge Lane, Williamsburg, VA 23185 on Thurs day, March 15, at 5:00 PM.
Our family would like to extend sincere gratitude and appreciation to her doctors, nurses, and all other staff at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center for the phenomenal care and concern given to Barbara during her final days with us. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Olaf Building Fund. Arrangements are entrusted to Nelsen Funeral Home.
