Obituary Condolences

Roger D. Neilson passed on October 13, 2013. He was preceded in death by his siblings Paul, Robert, Jean, Rosemary, and his parents Edith and William. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Nancy Porter Neilson, his son, Thomas, his son James and daughter-in law, Deelyn, and their children, Ryan, Abbie Layne, and Mitch. Roger had a bachelor's degree from East Stroudsburg State University and a master's degree from Syracuse University. Roger was a high school teacher, principal, and football coach, and his highly successful coaching career included leading the Pulaski, NY Blue Devils to a 30-3 record and four Oswego County League championships from 1957-1961. The 1958 Pulaski team went undefeated and unscored upon. After coaching at Pulaski, he became the freshman football coach and a physical education instructor at The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia and later served as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia. He later coached the 1966 Fulton Red Raider football team to a championship. Roger and his wife, Nancy, retired from teaching in 1985 and lived for over 25 years in Seven Lakes, North Carolina before moving to Williamsburg, Virginia in 2010. Roger was also an avid golfer and he registered three holes-in-one in his lifetime. Roger served in the United States Army and was a Korean War veteran. A small family memorial service will be held.
