Deborah HEAYN Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Apr. 3, 2014.
HEAYN, Deborah "Debbe" Lyn (Caldwell)
December 29, 1950 - March 29, 2014
An inspiration for her enthusiastic commitment to making hers a life well lived, and admired for her quiet resolve and perseverance in the face of her life's many challenges. Debbe passed away at VGH in comfort and at peace, with her beloved children by her side, in the pre-dawn hours of March 29th. She is survived by her daughter Melissa (sons Gavin and Carter) and her son Jason (wife Andrea and son Benjamin) as well as her siblings Sharon, Doug, and Barb and their families. Her presence will be sorely missed by the many communities she was active in. A celebration of Debbe's spirit will be held at Tenth Church, #11 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver at 1:00 PM, April 4, 2014. In lieu of flowers, please visit and support www.pads.ca (PADS - the Pacific Assistance Dog Society) or icord.org (ICORD - Vancouver's multi- institution spinal cord injury research centre).

Dear Jason and Melissa, i know many will echo what i have to say but i still need to put it into words. Your mom was not only an inspiration to all including me as I faced some personal challenges but she was also really funny. She managed to laugh at situations that would have been challenging to most and that was a gift indeed. I was with her during some of these situations where I was so angry and she had a way of turning it around into humour. She was very determined and the courage it took for her to make the decisions she made in her final days is a testament to the strength and courage she had. I will miss her alot, she was my inspiration and an amazing friend. You must be so proud of her. My most sincere condolences. Lorraine Piche

Debbe was one-of-a-kind. We almost became neighbours at Linden Tree Place. She decided not to move in but improved the place immensely with her 'suggestions'. My sincere condolences to her family for your loss.

Melissa & Jason:

Strength, determination, humour, sense of fun, and empathy are all qualities I admired in Debbe and will remember her for. She will always be in our hearts.

Hi Jason and Melissa:

Your mom was an amazing lady - but you already know that!
I worked with her for 15 years with IMPACT and although we were coasts apart except seeing each other once or twice a year! (I am here in Nova Scotia) I felt that we got to know each other very well. I will cherish the many memories I have of her, best regards to you and your families.
The world is a better place because of Debbe xo
