My husband, Doug. My love, my friend, my shoulder to cry on, my
jokester. A courageous and beautiful man. I miss him.

Douglas Talney, whom I knew and respected from our graduate school years in the 1960s, was one of the finest intellects I've ever known and greatest friends I have ever had. I shall remember and respect his friendship til my own end.

During my last visit with my father I had the opportunity to tell him the many ways that he had blessed my life, and how much I loved and admired him. I also told him that I was certain that he had made this world a better place and positively impacted the lives of countless others, family, friends, students. He stated then that one of his greatest wishes was to feel that he was leaving this world a better place through his presence here. Well, from all of the beautiful comments in this guestbook, and from all the people who I've spoken with since he passed away, it's clear that he has indeed blessed the lives of all those around him. And if that's not making this world a better place, I don't know what is.
Thank you everyone for your loving words.

My son, Richard, said it, and I can only repeat, that Doug was one of the most gentle souls I have ever known, always quietly expressive, and with an equally gentle sense of humor - and a joy when in his presence, for discussion and conversation on music, philosophy, or any number of topics. He will be missed, as there are few like him in this world.
My long friendship with Doug and Margot covers the last half century. My condolences to Margot, Susie, Ellen, and all his family.

It's so difficult to know what to say under these circumstances, but I do wish to offer my condolences as well as my gratitude. I recall with such fondness Doug's gentleness and humor when he struggled to teach me to play the double bass. Indeed, for me it is these two traits - gentleness and humor - that will forever define Doug and serve as my comfort while I adjust to his not being among us.
Of equal comfort is my view of Doug and Margot as one; I will enjoy his presence in yours, Margot.
I hope that your friends' love and admiration of Doug bring you peace and ease your sense of loss.
With great love,
Rick, Karen and family

I am the younger brother of this remarkable man. It was a privilege to be so. He was my hero for all these years, to his final day.
