Hagan Beggs

March 19th 1937 - Sept 16th 2016

Born in Belfast, Hagan immigrated to Canada as a young man. He has worked on Stage, Radio, TV and Film as an actor, a set decorator and a props man.

Highlights of a long career include playing George Dunbar on "Danger Bay" and Liam Gleeson on "Bordertown", two Vancouver based television series. He will also be remembered as Lt Hansen on the first season of the original "Start Trek".

Hagan was loved by many and he asks family and friends to find a quiet moment on a beach or in a park and think of him.

He fondly loves you all.

I was sad to hear of Hagan passing. He and Danica helped me when I was just starting out in the film industry. They were both sterling people. I will never forget them. Love, Inga

Just back to this sad news. As is clear from the tributes, Hagan was one of a kind - warm, witty, smart, patient, merry, generous and a just plain fun person. He was a cherished and memorable neighbour for 15+ years at 2254 Cornwall Ave., and at annual reunions since our "renoviction" in 2011. Hagan & Danica were the delightful "icing on the cake", living in the penthouse of "Joan Court" our fab, funky 9-suite home at Kits Beach. So many stories!
Special memories include: ... Everyday kindness, intelligence and delight whenever we met in the hallways. Special assistance to aging and elderly neighbours, and any of us in need. Hosting fireworks parties (or were they drinking parties?) on the rooftop deck. Notes, doodles and a book of Joan Court stories and jokes by Bacon & Eggs. Affection, gifts and playfulness with babies, toddlers and young folks in his family and new ones born in Joan Court. Hosting a grand finale party for tenants and friends the night of a super moon in the emptied top-floor suite before we moved. The celebration of Danica's life with their wonderful friends at Jericho beach - not a dry eye after his moving poem.
Now the tears are for him - oh Hagan dear, the world will miss your presence for all the reasons our great "postie" Gerry Knudson mentioned.
Your presence was a gift in our lives for almost 20 years.
Warm condolences to family and friends.

I remember Hagan...1973@SFU.
Concrete Theatre, "The Breeze Inn", Thirteen Warm Bodies". His performance in "There".
He was smart, generous....he inspired and opened doors for those of us who were there.

Hagan was one of a kind. I had the privilege of working with Hagan as his agent in the 90's and there was always a story, a gift, a gift of laughter, but the wonderful part was it was a friendship that lasted through the years. I will miss Hagan and send light and love to him on his new travels. Stay Lit. Love Ya.

My condolences to the family. I've known Hagan for years as his dentist. He was never without a joke, a laugh, and kindness. He never forgot my birthday, and a hilarious card, adorned with his doodles, always accompanied a wee trinket he found for me. My staff and I will surely miss him. Love you Hagan.

You are a pure spirit, Hagan. Though our paths had not crossed for many years I often thought of you & followed you from afar.
The only occasion we worked together was an absolute joy; you were so generous in introducing me to your beautiful BC, and selfless in your friendship.
What an amazing surprise to see you again last fall @ Grace & Paul's; still the same twinkle and childlike wonder, an extraordinary human. Rest in Peace.

Hagan Beggs was a fountain of light & joy to those who knew him. And, if your experience with him was simply a brief encounter, you couldn't help but be touched by his' whimsy & vivacity.
I knew Hagan better than many, as I was his' Postman for the better part of 25 years. (And, you would be amazed at what your postman doesn't unwittingly know about you, as I did with openness & much jocularity of Hagan!) No matter how serious a situation or discussion that we found ourselves in, Hagan would always find a way, even if sarcastically, to punctuate that occasion with his' wit & humour. He was, to me, a magnificent example of how we, as civilised people, should treat & regard each other. He was charitable & showed loving-kindness to others, even when there was nothing for him to personally gain outside of the satisfaction that his' works were inherent examples of human decency.
When I retired 3 1/2 years ago, Hagan presented me with a letter of thanks & encouragement that means more to me than any other accolade that I ever received & I keep that message from him in a special location in my home.

"Bacon & Eggs," Lt Hansen, Hagan! ....it was an Honour to have known someone as Special & as Remarkable as you!

My Condolences to Hagan's Family & Friends that I know of, his' sons, Noah and Morgan (and Family). As well, my Kindest Thoughts to Hagan's Dear & Close Pals, John Rogers & Trevor Evans (two of the "Three (along with Hagan) Amigos"). Hagan was loved by a multitude of people, notably, in my experience, by Jamie, Cecilia, Dawn (& Hagan's friends at Viva), Sue Abs, Vince & Linda, as well as friends at Sunset Grill & Zen Café. Special Thoughts to you all. We have lost a true friend but we were indeed, blessed to have ever known Hagan Beggs.

My Uncle Hagan Beggs. He was such a wonderful man with a heart of gold and a beautiful sense of humour. He was one of the easiest people to talk to and had a unique taste in style. I will always remember the strange and wonderful gifts he and my Aunty Danica brought me for my birthdays as a child. One such gift was a dinosaur sculpture made of three deer jaw bones painted green and glued together. He called it my deer dinosaur ballerina. I will miss you dearly Uncle Hagan. I'm glad you're with Aunty Danica now.

My Dear Frienb Hagen. It is sad to see my friend gone. When I visit the beach in Mexico where we had met. I will take a few minutes to sit there and remember when we had met. You always had a great smile and a good joke to tell me. I will miss the rolling eyes of this great man. Thank you for being my friend. Iam sure I will see you later in Heaven. Bye for now my friend.

Dear Hagan: I remember you for oh so long. You were the 1st person to hire me out of university (UBC) in 1980, on a movie called "Harry Tracy Desperado". I learned much and carried on to a fine career in Camera thanks to you taking a chance in the o'l days of Vancouver. I remained friends with you many years later thanks to Karen Robyn's beautiful parties. You are a special soul. Love you forever. Thank-you Hagan. Happy Trails. xoxo Gillian Stokvis-Hauer
