Hendrika van Zuuk Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Oct. 26, 2013.
Hendrika Gerarda van Zuuk February 23, 1931 - October 20, 2013 Our loving mother and Oma has passed away from esophageal cancer at Laurel Place Hospice in Surrey, BC at the age of 82. "Henny" was predeceased by her younger son George in 1997, her husband Henk in 2005, brothers Henk and Gerard and sister Gerda. Mourning her death are her daughter Mary, son Jerry and partner Markku, grandchildren Jenny (Scott) and Paul (Emily), four great-grandchildren (Katelyn, Corey, Elliott and Owen) and one great-great-grandchild (Kendra). She is also survived by her sister Diny and other relatives in Holland, as well as numerous friends in Canada and the Netherlands. Last but not least, she leaves behind her beloved canine companions, Hanna and Bonnie. Mom was born in Hilversum, Holland. She and Dad married in 1951 and over the following four years their three children were born. We immigrated to Canada in 1957, settling in Vancouver. In 1978 Mom and Dad moved to North Delta, to a brand new house Mom always thought was perfect and where she lived for 35 years. Mom was a very hardworking and devoted mother and wife. She was also a dog lover; her passion for her beloved Boxers knew no bounds. Mom's many other interests included cooking, gardening, tole painting, classical music, foreign travel, playing canasta, and cheering on the Canucks. We will all miss Henny dearly. There will be a Celebration of Life at New Hope Church, 11838 88 Avenue, Delta on Saturday, November 2 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.

She taught me how to drink good coffee, knit, crochet, cross stitch (all that I still do). She started me on with Royal Albert china, pieces that I still have and love. She was a really good cook and kept a beautiful home. Friendly and loving but firm. I can still hear her calling "Geert!". I am sorry she ever had to bear any sadness, for she never imparted any. Will always remember her.

Henny was een down to earth woman. We all loved her!! Zij was erg gastvrij. Wij zullen Henny missen.

Wij zijn blij dat we de afgelopen jaren intensiever contact hadden en dat een bezoek aan Volendam zo prettig was met haar samen met Marijke.
