Jack Oyhenart Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Jun. 4 to Jun. 6, 2010.

OYHENART, Jack Devoted husband, father, and grandfather; accomplished baseball player and coach; tireless volunteer for charities; and successful business man. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Jack Oyhenart on May 31, 2010, at 56 years young. He was surrounded by love ones at the time of his passing and will be greatly missed by his wife of 35 years Grace, his 4 children: Alana (Allan), Kevyn (Eileen), Jayme, and Chad (Carlie); his 5 grandchildren: Nolan, Hallie, Mackenzie, Kyle, and Kalleigh. Jack was the eldest of 5 children, predeceased by his father Peter. He is survived by his mom Tillie, his 3 sisters: Darlene (Dean), Karen (Peter), and Debbie (Joe), and his brother Greg (Colleen), as well as his many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, sisters and brothers in law. Jack's proudest accomplishment was raising an amazing family with Grace. A celebration of Jack's life is planned for Friday, June 11 at 1pm, at the Richmond Funeral Home (8420 Cambie Road). In lieu of flowers, Jack would have appreciated you supporting two causes close to his heart: the BC Children's Hospital, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The family wishes to thank Dr.Greg Haljan and the staff of the Richmond General Hospital ICU for their outstanding efforts and sincere compassion.

I met Jack about 30 years ago as a commercial client through the Royal Bank.Jack was a great listener and both our professional and personal friendship grew for many years. As he progressed and changed branches at the bank,I would transfer all my accounts to follow him.He always supported me and his trust was an important part of my business success.
A fine person who has a special place in my memories,

My name is Greg Viger.
I am one of the the many that dearly call him Uncle Jack.
I am one of the many he is responsible for getting into the mortgage business.

A person who guides or inspires others is a leader.
A person that is a wise and trusted counselor is a mentor.
A person who trains or teaches is a coach.
A person whom one knows, likes and trusts is a friend.

Jack was loved because he was a friend.
Jack was valued because he was a coach.
Jack was treasured because he was a mentor.
Jack was cherished because he was a leader.

I think I speak for all of us in the mortgage and banking business when I say Jack was all of these things. Not just once in a while - but all the time.

While his early passing is a great loss to society for he had so much more to give, he has already given us so much.

He has given us a model to aspire too and we must look to ourselves to carry on his legacy.

We each must be a good friend, an involved coach, a willing mentor and a leader for others. I am sad to loose my friend, coach, mentor and leader.

But I am grateful for the gifts he has already given me. I am a greater person because of him.

Thank you Jack. You will be missed.

Jack was a baseball coach of mine for 2 years. More than any other coach I had, Jack cared so much about molding his players into strong men. There is plenty to say about what Jack could give to an athlete skills-wise, but I will remember him for how he cared about instilling values that would remain with his players for life.

Those we love
are never really lost to us -
we feel them
in so many special ways-
through friends
they always cared about
and dreams they left behind,
in beauty that they added to our days...
in words of wisdom we still carry with us
and memories that never will be gone...
Those we love are never really lost to us -
For everywhere their special love lives on.
To the Oyhenart family our deepest sympathy goes out to all of you.Jack will be deeply missed by his family, friends and community. I'm honored to have known him for the last 20yrs. Love you all

Colleen and I woke up today, and playing on radio was "Centerfield", and she recalled the time that the 2 of us were playing ball together on Zim's Brewers, and Jack was dancing to this song at one of the baseball parties. What a perfect song!

He always showed up, ready to play...had a smile on his face the whole time...and played every game with the intensity of a championship game...like the heroes' mentioned in the song, he was a hero to many of us, especially those that got to play ball with him, and for him!

Although you will miss him
and long for his presence
and all of the warm family times you've had...
just try and remember
through all your sorrow
you have every reason to smile and be glad...
you wouldn't be feeling exceptional sadness
if you hadn't had an exceptional, husband, father and granddad.
Our Sincere Sympathy,

Liz Reid

Grace & family:

Margo sent us the sad message and we are so sorry for your loss. Our paths crossed for such a short time, but we thoroughly enjoyed you and Jack on our Panama Cruise. In fact we both said it was the people we met that made the cruise so much fun and sharing dinner for 21 days with the gang was some of our very special memories.

Love and remembrance last forever"

Take care Grace - our thoughts and prayers are with you.

My darling cousin is gone too soon. Ken and I have so many wonderful memories of time spent in the company of Jack and Grace. Our standing Friday night date was always the highlight of our week.
So close your eyes and there you'll see the face of the kindest of men. May Jack's memory sustain you, as it will Ken and me.
