Juris Bergins

December 11, 1938 - February 17, 2018

Juris Voldemars Bergins, age 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 17, 2018 surrounded by love and his family at St. John's Hospice in Vancouver. He was born in Latvia to Janis and Mirdza (Kenins) Bergins. As a young boy he came to Canada with his parents via Germany. They settled in Calgary. Juris studied architecture in Manitoba and eventually opened his own practice in Vancouver, BC. Later, he relocated to Nanaimo, BC. He is survived by his two daughters, Kristine Bergins and Monika (Eric) Young and his two grandchildren, Torsten and Fenna. Juris was a talented architect, designing and working on projects until the end. He had a deep appreciation for the arts and philosophy, loved spending time with his friends and family, enjoyed sailing, cooking, and relaxing in Mexico. We will miss his wonderful sense of humour. Juris will be remembered as a loyal friend, loving father and doting grandfather. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 2pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1499 Laurier Street, Vancouver, BC. with the Pastor Daira Cilnis officiating. The family would like to extend its gratitude to all of the staff at St. John's Hospice for their attentive and loving care. Memorials may be made in Juris' name to the Order of St. John's Palliative Care Foundation
