I came across a mention of this guest book on Facebook & was reminiscing about being a Grade 7 student in your mother's class. She was a remarkable women & a fantastic teacher. For me it was 46 yrs. ago & I remember a lot about her. Her reading the Odyssey to us was the highlight of my elementary school. I remember that her favourite word was serendipity. She was quite close with he librarian (?Miss Swan). At our graduation party they danced enthusiastically to Paperback Writer. She also let us read her thesis which was about Charlotte's Web & it opened with her talking about reading it to her sons & the impact that it had on your family. She was my 1st teacher who taught & modelled striving for excellence scholastically & otherwise.

My heart filled with love seeing this photo of my beloved 7th grade teach Mrs Juk. She was and has always been the one and only teacher who gave me my future career. Such was her influence, I have spent the last 40 yrs in the music industry as a professional singer, performer and vocal coach in the UK and worldwide.Mrs Juk gave me confidence in all subjects, but her music and performance mesmerised me. I remember her standing in front of the class and at our request she sang! That moment changed my life! I cannot express how much ! I excelled in her class in all subjects...even maths lol! Best marks I ever received! But more than that, I and the whole class adored her. On a personal note to Mrs Juk's sons. She spoke of you both many times in class. We loved to hear her stories. I did try my hardest to find her about ten yrs ago via Mary Hill Elementary School and the teachers register, but sadly to no avail. I just wanted to say thank you, and tell her I loved her.
She has never left my thoughts when I've been teaching , performing or producing. Mrs Juk showed me how!
Sending love and blessings to her family xxx RIP Mrs Juk

Michael and Peter, my sincerest condolences. It's January 2016 and I've just seen this. Mrs Juk was my grade 7 teacher, by far, the most influential educator in my life and I have 3 post-secondary degrees. She embedded a love of music, she hosted a yoga group at lunchtime in the library, she spoke to each of us with respect and kindness and fostered a sense that learning was a good and wonderful way to live a life. About 2 years ago I bought a little black cardigan with pearls on it. I was immediately enamoured with it when I saw it and wore it for weeks before I realized it was the same cardigan she would often wear (with black pants and sensible shoes). She was the cultural ambassador for many.

Mrs Juk was my ultimate all-time favourite teacher. I remember her taking us all to an afternoon performance of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra after carefully instructing us about the protocols of behaviour. I also remember her reading aloud to us The Odyssey, and us then begging her to read The Illiad. I am very grateful to have had her as a teacher.

A fine example for any new teacher who had the opportunity to teach alongside her. Remembered with great respect and honour.

Lily, a perfectionist in many aspects of her life, was a loyal friend and supportive colleague. Years later, our family was doubly fortunate for my eldest son had Lily, an ultimate “master teacher” during his sixth grade. From my brief visit with Lily during her Victoria Lone Terrace relocation, I could see that Victoria's solitude setting was richly compatible with her private and passionate personality. She flourished in Nature's copious offerings as she was richly supported by the calmness of the nearby waters and, as well, the warmer Victoria weather motivated her gardening diversions for I still have vivid recollections of her smile of great pride as she proudly displayed her abundant garlic crop. Always a conscientious individual, and once again, she was reaping the rewards of her endless efforts.
Throughout the years of our friendship, Lily pursued Life with a truly consummate passion but her devotion as a Mother and now, a Grandmother were always the pinnacle priorities of Lily's Life. No matter how old we are, losing a mother and grandmother is one of the deepest sorrows a heart can know. But her goodness, her caring and her wisdom live on, like a legacy of love that will always be with all of you.
With deepest sympathy,

I feel such sadness, reading about Mrs. Juk's passing. She was my music teacher at Mary Hill Elementary -- and hands down, the best music teacher ever. We were back in touch in the 1990s -- decades later -- and we gleefully shared stories from the Mary Hill days. I'm sure it's partly because of Lily that I became a lifelong musician and music researcher. RIP.
