Ronald KERAS Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Feb. 25, 2016.
KERAS, Ronald Stephen
Ronald Stephen Keras passed away peacefully on February 20, 2016, surrounded by friends and family. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Shirley; his children Diane (Brian) and David (Elaine); his grandchildren Aiden, Emily, Christopher, Connor, and Willow; and a multitude of extended family: mother, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Raised in the Fraser Valley, Ron achieved a lot in his 67 years. He started his career as a sheet metal worker with CP Air (later Canadian Airlines), where he eventually became Union President of the IAM & AW, standing up for the rights of all airline related workers. After leaving Canadian Airlines, he worked hard to become a successful labour arbitrator, which he did for 25 years; many of his decisions have become case law and can be found in Labour Arbitration Cases (4th). It was a role that he loved, one in which he earned a reputation for being fair and just. In addition, he owned a successful business with his brothers where he served as CEO and CFO. UAS Industries does business around the world. Ron spent more time there than he needed to, but it was because he enjoyed the work and loved the opportunity to spend time with his brothers, extended family, and everyone else who works there, who invariably became like family. More important than his career, Ron touched many lives. He was always there for immediate and extended family, and anyone else who might have needed him. By far, his kindness and generosity is what he will be remembered for most. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 4451 Williams Road, Richmond, BC with a Reception to follow. Thank you to the staff at Delta Hospital for your kind care of Ron. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the ALS Society.

Forever missed and loved by all.
I will miss your great sense of fairness, generosity, love of family and super sense of humour. Words cannot convey my grief and sense of loss.
There will always be a void left by your passing that cannot be filled. Forever missing my big brother, Donald.
