The Last Roundup CLANCEY _ William E. S. born April 18th, 1915. A lifetime Vancouverite, he passed away Friday, December 5th, 2003, peacefully at Vancouver General Hospital's Palliative Care Unit. Predeceased by parents Stephen and Mabel Clancey and brothers, John and James, Bill leaves behind the love of his life, his wife Edna and their marriage of 57 years; daughter Deborah (Steve) Kitson, son Sean and daughter Melinda (Ian Dubienski); grandchildren Spencer, Sarah and Shaelah; brother Donald (Diana); brother-in-law Frank Hurford; nieces and nephews Steve, Dorothy, Chloe, Craig, Martin, Greg and Patrick and many, many dear friends. In November, 2002, in recognition of his long and distinguished business career in the affairs of Vancouver and British Columbia, he was awarded a Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. William Clancey & Associates Ltd. was formed in 1953 as one of the first public relations consulting firm. Through the decades, until his retirement two years ago, his firm was involved in many of the major construction and expansion projects that took place in the province. He served at an executive level in banking, heavy construction, mining and energy. Bill worked for several political leaders beginning with former British Columbia Premier J.D. "Duff" Patullo and the Prime Minister of Canada, the Rt. Hon. Wm. Lyon Mackenzie King. He had a long public and personal association with former British Columbia Premier, the Hon. W.A.C. Bennett. He was inducted to the BC Lions Wall of Fame for his role as a founding director. He was a founding director of the Bank of British Columbia and a Convocation Founder of Simon Fraser University. He received a Certificate of Merit recognition for his outstanding contributions to the BC Centennial Celebrations (1858-1958) and to the Canadian Centennial Celebrations of 1967. He was the originator and Commissioner for the BC Year of Music in 1991. He raised his family in West Vancouver where he was continually active in charity and community work. He was a long time member of the Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club, the B.C. Public Relations Society and the Union Club of BC in which he was a lifetime member. [email protected] A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, December 12th at 2:00 p.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church 1430 W. 38th Avenue. After the service, family and friends are invited to a celebration of Bill's life at the "Last Round Up" Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club, 4300 Marine Drive SW. The family wants to extend heartfelt thanks to the many angels that gave care to Bill during his illness. Particularly to his friend Dr. Jorge Denegri; Dr. Dan McDonald, nurse Pat Scullion and other members of VGH's Medical Day Care Services; Dr. Ngui and the many nurses and doctors in the Palliative Care Unit at VGH and also to the home care nurses from Pacific Sprit.
