Judy Cranmer

CRANMER Judy (Tweedie) 9 June 1935 - 26 September 2009 Passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit of Lions Gate Hospital. Judy was predeceased by her mother Marjorie, father Louis and brother Robert. Judy is survived by her loving daughter Betsy, nieces Dianne, Christine and Laurean and cousin Gerald. Judy was born and raised in Vancouver, B.C. She graduated with honours in design from the Vancouver School of Art in 1956. After two years of freelancing in silk screen printing and fabric design, she travelled and worked throughout Europe from 1958-1961. Ironically it was there that her interest in Northwest Coast Indian art developed after seeing some of the European collections. Returning to Canada she met Doug Cranmer, noted Kwatkiutl artist and from him, over a period of eight years, her unique art form developed. She chose pottery as her medium and when she wrapped a Kwakiutl Raven design around a pot her distinctive style of pottery was born. "Tweedie" as she was affectionately called by her art school friends, exhibited extensively across Canada and the United States. Her work is represented in widespread private collections. Judy will be sorely missed by her family and friends who will have a celebration of life and art at Judy's home in North Vancouver October 3, 2009 from 2:00pm - 6:00pm.
