Ruth SAWATZKY Obituary
October 18, 1936 - May 1, 2012
Ruth was taken home to be with her Lord and Saviour after a lengthy journey with Multiple Myeloma. Her greatest passions in life were her love of God and family. Her nurturing care, love and inspiration, creativity and limitless zest for life is immersed in each treasured grandchild today. Later in life, her art became a central focus and brought tremendous joy as her natural instincts for colour and texture produced unique and special artwork that will remain Ruth's enduring creative legacy. Ruth is survived by her loving husband George of 55 years, daughters Donna (Don) White, Connie (Michael) Coflin and Carol Tonn and grandchildren Sara and Emily White, Olivia and Tomas Coflin and Raymond Tonn. Special thanks to the doctors and caregivers who helped Ruth over the many years; especially Drs. Magnuson, Benny, Sutherland and Duncan. The family is thankful for the care and respect shown Ruth by the caregivers on C6 at V.G.H. and at the Irene Thomas Hospice in Delta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Irene Thomas Hospice at 4635 Clarence Taylor Crescent, Delta, BC V4K 4L8. A Memorial Service will be held to honour Ruth's life on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 2:00 p.m., at First Baptist Church, 969 Burrard Street, Vancouver, BC. Reception to follow.

My daughter (an aspiring artist) and myself spent a lovely summer afternoon visiting and meeting Ruth in her beautiful backyard studio. Ruth was such an inspirational person to talk to. We have never forgotten our visit and will always remember her generosity.
