1939 - 2013
Thomas L. Spraggs B.A. Sc. (Civil Engineering), LL.B., eldest son of the late Robert and Clara (nee Dickson) Spraggs, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 13, 2013. Raised in Armstrong, BC, Tom earned his civil engineering degree from the University of British Columbia through the Royal Officers Training Programs. He went on to serve three years as a flying officer in Cold Lake, AB; Dana, SK; Calgary, AB; Winnipeg, MB: St. Jean, QC; Goose Bay, NL and France. After his career in the military, Tom went on to law school and graduated from the University of British Columbia with an LL.B. in 1970. Tom swam competitively with the UBC Swim Team, who were Western Canadian Collegiate Champions. Growing up, he was a member of the 4-H Poultry, Diary and Garden Clubs as well as the Boy Scouts and attended the 8th World Jamboree at Niagara on the Lake, ON. Tom was a proud Canadian and was committed to his community. Twice, he ran federally for a seat as a Member of Parliament as a candidate for the Liberal Party of Canada. He founded Spraggs & Co. Law Corporation in Coquitlam, BC in 1971. Tom was passionate about helping people and did so through his practice for 35 years. He was proud to see his legacy endure with the family continuing on with the firm. Family came first to Tom who loved to travel and take his family on grand adventures all over the world. He is survived by his loving wife Diane who supported him through his illness. Mourning his loss are his five children Tami (Kurt) Lamp, Thomas (Jessica) Spraggs, Robert (Danielle) Spraggs, Chérie (Damian) Schaible, and Tyler Spraggs; and his nine grandchildren Lauryn, Nicole, Sophia, Annabelle, William, Thomas, Robert, Elizabeth and Harrison. Tom is predeceased by his sister Janet Tiffany, and is survived by his brothers Lynn (Marilynn) Spraggs and Terry (Joan) Spraggs, and his sisters Wendy Kineshanko and Cynthia Spraggs. The family celebrated Tom's life at a private graveside service on Thursday, August 15, 2013 in Armstrong, BC. They would like to thank Dr. Donald Cameron for his expertise, empathy and guidance, as well as Dr. Merrick Tosefsky for his extreme kindness and visitations. Tom was greatly encouraged and well cared for by the staff at "We Care," especially Lina Belarmino, Elsa Nobio and Marlen Posilero. Most of all, the family would like to thank Pastor Richard Ang who ministered and encouraged Tom, and was a great friend to him over last few years.
